Vlastina has received 2nd Green Flag Award from Eco-Schools/Ekoškola in recognition of our Eco-Schools journey. To earn the Green Flag Award they have been following the seven elements of the programme for another two years.
Eco-Schools is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world, operated internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). Eco-Schools supports schools in our work with Learning for Sustainability and helps ensure our children and young people are equipped with skills that they need for the future.
The Eco-Warriors have worked extremely hard to raise awareness and implement eco-initiatives across the school. We have focused our work on litter, waste minimisation and food waste of the ten topics of Eco-Schools. The Eco-Warriors have also linked our action plan to UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 – ‘Responsible production& consumption’ which linked to the three topics above. We registered as an Eco-School with Tereza, Educational centre in 2016 and this is our first award.
Three ECO inspectors visited the school to evaluate our progress towards achieving the green flag for Eco-Schools. Two members of the Eco-Council (Sophia and Nela) gave the visitors an informative tour around the school and highlighted all the areas where we are focussing on eco initiatives.

Well done to the Eco Council and the whole school community for your continued hard work and support.
Come on, it’s not rocket science. For some people it is! A 2022 graduate from PBIS, Ilyes is currently working on his bachelor's degree with a focus on mechanical engineering, physics, and computer science at Sorbonne University in Paris. Apart from his academic work, he’s also working on a modest side project: developing a jet engine. His approach, in his own words, is to “learn as much as possible about everything” so he can apply his knowledge to real-world situations and make the world a smarter, better place.
Despite figuring out what she wanted to study only when filling out the university applications, Laura’s list of accomplishments is not only impressive, it’s growing. She recently graduated top of her class with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from King's College London, interned at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, and was awarded six prizes including the Jelf Medal for academic excellence and extracurricular involvement from her university. This autumn, she starts her PhD at the University of Oxford. Her journey has been full of surprises and unexpected twists, but one lesson remains the same–you can’t do anything alone.
