We are proud to share that our 2019 graduates achieved exceptional results in this year’s International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP). For the 2018-2019 academic school year, MET DP graduates achieved a pass rate of 92%, significantly higher than the international average of 80%.
To earn an IB Diploma, a student needs to earn a total of 24 points. The average score for our 2019 MET graduates was 31, higher than the IB global average of 29.5. This year, eight students completed the bilingual diploma and we reached a new high score of 39 points - the highest score by a MET graduate so far. This is the level of attainment required to gain admission to the world's elite universities. These results showcase the hard work and tenacity of our students, the support of our parents, and the commitment of our teachers and staff to academic excellence.Richard Hengelbrok, our Secondary School Principal, said "The success in the DP program is the result of many years of effort and energy from our Secondary School team, whether in IB MYP or IB DP classes, by motivating and encouraging our students to stay focused and not give up. Kudos to Michael Foxmann, our High School and IB DP Curriculum Coordinator, for guiding the IB DP this year at the MET. A special mention to Phil Hayes who led the program last year and supported our students in Grade 11."
For the 4th year in a row, 100% of our DP graduates passed all three IB DP core subjects (Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, and Creativity-Activity-Service). Mr. Hengelbrok added, "These are essential components to complete an IB DP education, an extraordinary achievement thanks to a phenomenal team of mentors who guided our students: Michael Foxmann for TOK, Anne Gegg for CAS, and Daysi Barrios for EE. It is a rare and special accomplishment for a school to have four straight years with a 100% pass rate in all core areas.”
The MET’s graduating class of 2019 received 114 offers of admission from 85 different universities in 15 different countries. They will be heading off to 12 different countries to study a variety of subjects like the arts, bioengineering, design, architecture, business, law, medicine, engineering, and the sciences. This year we received our first acceptance to Williams College, rated the number one Liberal Arts University in the USA, and for two years in a row, our valedictorian has selected Georgetown University. While the total scholarship amount offered for the class of 2019 was over 2.4 million dollars, one of our students received the most prestigious and generous merit scholarship, the International Major Entrance Scholarship from the University of British Columbia in Canada.
At the MET we support each student to be ambitious and achieve more than they may have thought possible, so a huge congratulations to all our graduates for a job well done!
This cohort demonstrated Passion and Excellence throughout their years at the MET and we can’t wait to see what they achieve in the future. Good luck graduates!
