Information and Communication Technology (ICT) forms a central part of the DCIS curriculum, and with coding and programming emerging as desirable skills over the last decade, we prioritise preparing our students for future careers through diverse digital opportunities and immersive experiences.
We are extremely proud of all our Key Stage 2 students who participated in the competition. Each team worked incredibly hard to meet the design brief which was released via a video from our competition host, fellow Nord Anglia Education school, British International School – Ho Chi Minh City (BIS HCMC) in Vietnam. Everyone showed great problem-solving skills in the student-led competition with support from computing teachers and their class teachers. Students planned their own solutions to a real-life problem with a variety of online and offline resources including robotics to address the challenge. One of the team’s videos was then selected and submitted to BIS HCMC for further evaluation.
“As this is the first competition we have entered for some time, we are delighted with the results. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students, parents, class teachers and other teachers who were involved in the competition. It was a wonderful event which has certainly inspired us to continue to develop our passion for computing, playing and tinkering with technology.” said Katie Cornes, Head of ICT and Computing.
Through our membership and collaborations with FOBISIA, students have incredible opportunities to make real-world connections to their learning at regional competitions. This competition enabled our students to partner and collaborate with students across the FOBISIA system to enhance their learning beyond the classroom and expand their personal networks.
The overall winners were announced on 17th March. Watch this video to view the results and the following videos made by our students below:
Winner of Best Concept: Trash Dash (Arthur, Rahul, Celyan, Arun, Kelly)
Coding Challenge (Pedro, Kayra, Jayden, Ayuna, Emma)
Coding 2 (Naina, Zaara, Evelyne, Samyra, Alyssa, Nityashree)
Trash Dash created an educational game to help people in Singapore obtain a greater understanding of sorting their rubbish. It is something which the team noticed the Singapore Government have been sharing lately too.
