Dover Court's Success at the FOBISIA Minecraft Showdown

Dover Courts Success at the FOBISIA Minecraft Showdown - Dover Courts Success at the FOBISIA Minecraft Showdown

The FOBISIA Minecraft Showdown was a huge success, showcasing the talent and creativity of our students. Seven students from the Years 5 and 6 Media and Technology Advocates group represented Dover Court International School in the competition, which included over 800 students from 28 other schools in the region.

Rei in Year 6 achieved 3rd place in the competition, where participants were challenged to create a Redstone machine that closely followed the design brief. The challenges tested students’ creativity, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork skills.

We spoke with Rei to learn more about his project and his experience in the competition:

Q. Can you tell us about your Redstone machine and how it fits the design brief?

Rei: My Redstone machine was designed to harvest sugar cane. You place the sugar cane in the machine, and the pistons repeatedly push it so that it breaks down and becomes ready for use.

Q. What part of your project makes you proud, and why?

Rei: I think my design is really innovative. I also think that a machine like this would help farmers in the real world.

Q. Did you use any special tricks or methods that helped you do really well?

Rei: I used something called ‘observers’ to monitor changes. If it notices a change, they respond by activating Redstone.

Q. What do you enjoy most about playing Minecraft?

Rei: I really enjoy creating hidden worlds disguised by secret doors. This was another challenge we had during the FOBISIA Minecraft competition. I'm happy that I can play Minecraft both at school and at home.

Q. What is something important you learned from this project that you can use in future ones?

Rei: I learned to look at the scoring criteria and see what the judges are looking for to achieve top marks. I did that for this challenge, and it worked out really well for me.

Q. Do you have any tips for other students who want to join competitions like this?

Rei: You should make your project large so that it stands out and is impressive! Even if you are not great at Minecraft, you should still take part if you have the opportunity. It is fun and you can learn some new skills.

A big congratulations to all our students who participated in the FOBISIA Minecraft Showdown.
