PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The DCIS PE Department’s vision is to create a lifelong love of sport and fitness, by providing an inclusive curriculum which is engaging, challenging and presents appropriate exposure to school physical activity and sport opportunities.

DCIS Primary Physical Education

The Dover Court Primary PE curriculum focuses on physical literacy, developing students’ balance, coordination, and agility through a variety of different activities. The swimming programme for our youngest students focuses on building water confidence, safety around the pool and basic strokes, whilst the older students work on developing and refining their stroke technique.

The Primary PE team takes a student-centred approach to teaching and learning, offering students opportunities to explore their interests. We offer a multitude of sports and activities for students all of ages to get involved in through our extensive CCA programme and competitive fixtures. Through House Sports Events the students are exposed to a friendly competitive element. These challenge students individually and as part of a team, whilst developing core skills such as cooperation and communication.

As an extension of our programme, we offer opportunities for students to attend both local and international tournaments, such as the Nord Anglia Games and the FOBISIA Games in Years 5 and 6.

DCIS Secondary Physical Education

Our vision is key to the delivery of both our curriculum and co-curricular programme in the DCIS Secondary school. We offer a multitude of sports and activities both inside and outside of school, all of which challenge our students individually and as part of a team, but which go with our aim of creating a lifelong love of sport and fitness. Physical Education is one of the core subjects in Key Stages 3 and 4 and all students in Years 7 to 11 have two PE lessons per week, where fundamentals of sport are taught, and leadership skills developed.

We offer examination subjects in both GCSE Physical Education (GCSE PE) and IB Sports, Exercise and Health Science (IB SEHS). The GCSE PE course runs over three years, with examinations in Year 11, and covers both practical and theoretical elements. The students receive a well-rounded introduction to the world of sports, including sports science, anatomy, and physiology, by developing an understanding of how the mind and body work in relation to performance in physical activity. The IB SEHS course incorporates the disciplines of anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and nutrition, which are studied in the context of sport, exercise, and health.

We are extremely proud of our sporting achievements in the Athletic Conference of Singapore International School (ACSIS). We enter an average of 44 Secondary teams per year with much success throughout the age groups. We also take both U13 and U15 teams to participate internationally in the FOBISIA games, where we compete against other British international schools in Southeast Asia.
