For our KS2 STEAM ECA on Thursday afternoon, the children worked collaboratively to design and make catapults with the aim of creating the furthest trajectory.
The children worked incredible well to incorporate all the elements of STEAM, particularly that of Maths, Science and Engineering. They were shown an example catapult to base their ideas around but were challenged to think of their own design ideas. The atmosphere was fantastic and the conversations between students was inspiring. They were thinking carefully about height, distance, weight and shape of the object as well as stability of the design and force applied to it. In the end the children went head-to-head, testing their catapults to see which one had the furthest trajectory.
