Dear Parents
I had the greatest pleasure to attend the BVIS annual Sports Awards evening on Wednesday evening. A wonderful event and so much to Celebrate. Well done to all the students for your achievements this year and a big thank you to all the staff for putting on such a great event.
As you know we recruit some of the best teachers worldwide for your children. However, we also continue to ensure that our teachers have access to some of the best and most up to date educational resources and thinking. As you know, recently, we hosted one of the largest teacher conferences here at BVIS where over 200 teachers shared their good practice for the benefit of our school and your children. Please see summary video by click to this link or the photo below:
Following our TES International Schools Award I am delighted to say that Rod Smith, Group Managing Director of International Education at Cambridge, UK, has sent BVIS a message of congratulations and I have copied the main part of the message from him below:
“I wanted to congratulate you on winning the Tes Award for Community Engagement Initiative of the Year – 2024. Equipping students to be productive citizens with strong values and ethics is also an important part of Cambridge’s approach to education. Your school has demonstrated this behaviour so wonderfully with its work at The Floating Village, and this award recognition within the international education community is very well deserved.”
I am also delighted to announce that our sister school BIS has formed a partnership with Blackburn Rovers Football Club. They will be running a series of football coaching sessions and BIS have kindly opened this up for students and families of BVIS too. I wish you all a very relaxing weekend ahead.
School Value - Enquiry
Enquiry is an essential part of Early Years philosophy and one of our values at BVIS. Children are encouraged to seek the answers supported by the teachers. This week, the children have been enquiring about colours, materials and shapes. The work has been hands-on, investigative and even challenging at times. The activities have also promoted their independence, whilst developing teamwork and cooperation.
We are what we eat
As part of the IPC topic ‘We are what we eat’, Year 1 planted seeds to observe how they grow. The children painted old plastic bottles before using soil to plant seeds. Over the term, the children will take note of the differences in growth and will identify how to take care of the plants. Last week, the children also discussed reusing and recycling materials.
Telling the Time
Year 2 are working hard in maths learning about time. They have been learning to tell the time to 15-minute intervals using both the analogue and digital clock.
Communication
In Vietnamese, Year 3 children were very creative in using actions and expression to retell the story ‘Truyện về Thần Lúa’. Then, they work well in groups to take part in different games such as Bingo, Pop and Roll The Dice to help them understand and use the key vocabulary in the sentences.
School Value – Reflection: Apply mathematic skills in real life though Shopping activity
Year 4 Math lessons have become lively and engaging through a shopping activity involving the British currency. Students are immersed in the world of mathematics, applying various skills during the shopping session such as adding with British currency units and converting currency from pounds to pence.
Service Learning
On Thursday last week, Year 5 students had a sign language lesson with a teacher from Nhan Chinh School. Then, at the end of the week, representatives from Year 5 went to visit Nhan Chinh School to learn with the students.
Bilingual Communicators
Last week Year 6 students started learning their model stories in Vietnamese and English, based on a meeting in a fairground. This story will be their foundation and model for the literary tools we will study over the next few weeks. We started by creating our own actions and story maps, and did drama activities and quizzes to help us analyse and internalise the details and themes of the story.
School value CARING, RESPECT and INTEGRITY
At the end of last term, KS3 celebrated another successful term. Many students were awarded for house point and attendance achievements. The awards were interspersed with musical and dance performances, showcasing some of the amazing talents of our younger students. And no KS3 awards assembly is complete without a little silliness from Mr. Lincoln of course!
School value ENQUIRY
We are thrilled to share an incredible opportunity that our students at BVIS Hanoi have earned through our partnership with the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. As part of this collaboration, two of our students have been selected to participate in their annual STEAM Week held at the campus.
During this enriching week, students will engage in a diverse range of activities carefully designed to boost their proficiency in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). These activities include exclusive sessions such as interacting with esteemed professors, exploring the university's state-of-the-art maker spaces, and delving into the realms of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR) in dedicated labs.
The selection process for this coveted opportunity was rigorous and demanding. Students from across all Nord Anglia schools competed in a video competition, presenting their innovative visions for what they would accomplish as innovators at MIT. After an extensive judging process, we are proud to announce that two outstanding students from BVIS Hanoi have been chosen:
Congratulations to Quang Nguyen and Dang Doanh on this remarkable achievement! We are confident that they will make the most of this extraordinary experience at MIT's STEAM Week, further enhancing their academic and personal growth.
School value ENQUIRY and GLOBAL CITIZEN
We are extremely proud to announce Ngoc Bao Anh in 7B is this years’ BVIS internal Digital Habitat Challenge winner!
This years competition required students to work individually or together to research an endangered animal, learn about their needs and threats to their survival and use Minecraft (or another program) to create a realistic ecosystem in which they can thrive.
Ngoc Bao Anh’s entry will now be entered into the Global Challenge to compete against the best ecosystems entered by Nord Anglia students from around the world! Volunteer teacher judges will then choose the most ideal ecosystems for endangered animals to showcase on Global Campus for all of their international peers to explore. Congratulations Ngoc Bao Anh!
