Dear Parents
It is with great delight that I inform you that Duy Khoi Nguyen and Phuong Chi Nguyen and their title The Future of Connectivity are the worldwide winners of the Animation category, 11-14 age group category in the NAE Global Campus International Film Festival Competition. Congratulations to them both, an amazing achievement.
Our students have just returned from a fantastic trip to Tanzania. This was a great opportunity for them to engage in community work with local schools, visit an amazing African country and go on a safari expedition. A truly life changing experience for all involved.
Last weekend some of our secondary students joined up with our sister school BIS and attended the NAE STEAM festival in Ho Chi Minh City. This was a great event and all involved had a really great time.
I was really delighted with the parent satisfaction survey results and we have already started to action further improvements to the school to ensure the best quality of education for your children. The school has been commended by NAE for the big improvement in result since the last time you completed the survey. This I great news and demonstrates we are on a great journey going forwards.
Next week we will have eight visitors to the school from CIS and WASC. They will be in school all week to evaluate the school. They will speak with staff, students and parents and we are looking forward to welcoming them to the school.
Thank you to all those who responded to our re-enrolment survey. This is most helpful and will be an enormous help as we plan for next year. I am delighted to say that in some year groups the school will be full and we may have to implement waiting lists. This demonstrates the growing reputation we are establishing as a leading school in Hanoi and beyond.
Just a reminder that we will be running the summer school program again this year and we already have a large number of families signed up. If you haven’t done so already, please sign up to get 10% discount of the Summer school program tuition fee. For further information, you can check at this link.
I wish you all a very relaxing weekend ahead.
Stay and Play
This week, the Early Years Centre welcomed parents, grandparents and carers to share the learning and play with the children. Stay and Play sessions are a wonderful example of parent collaboration and the children are always excited to demonstrate the marvellous things that they have been learning.
The BVIS home school partnership continues next term in Early Years with Transition workshops.
Independent Learners
In Year 1 the children have become very confident at using iPads and digital technology to enhance their learning. Recently, the students have been able to log on to Bug Club independently and access books during continuous provision. This opportunity has allowed the children of Year 1 to grow in many aspects as they take ownership of their learning journey.
Mystery Bag: School Value – Enquiry
Year 2 students were so excited by the activity Mystery Bag. They brought a mystery bag from home and prepared 3-5 clues about what the item is; practiced saying these in English. They presented these clues to the class and the class guessed what it was. This was a great opportunity to develop speaking and communication skills for students.
Measuring in Maths
In Maths, Year 3 students practice measuring the volume of liquid using measuring instruments with scale markings. The children are extremely excited when they get to create magical water bottles according to the concoction formula of a wizard.
Global Citizenship and School Value - Enquiry
Year 4 has learned about the story 'Vườn Bách Thú Lí Tưởng' and the message of protecting wild animals. The students have participated in various activities to understand the story and are excited to plan their own stories.
Building Sentences and Building a Vietnamese Perspective
This week, Year 5 learnt about using adverbs and actions. In one activity, they used mime to combine the actions and adverbs. Their classmates had to guess what they were doing and how they were doing it. In another activity they learned how to start sentences with adverbs and actions.
Global citizenship and School Values – Respect and Caring
In PSHE, literacy and IPC, the Y6 students have been learning how to solve problems together, share solutions to problems, work together to build a stronger team and share their hopes and dreams for their futures and the future of their planet. They have been focusing on how to be active listeners and how to collaborate respectfully and creatively.
School value CARING and RESPECT
Ngan Ha won the Best Representative Award, which was voted by her peers across the forum among the Top Finishers. As a result, she will be featured on our blog, and she has won a scholarship seat for the Fashion Forum. Ngan was also nominated as a pioneer which means that she is qualified to launch a BWB Club next school year if it is supported by your board.
Buddies Without Borders Online Forums are now in 20+ countries and are month-long, web-based collaboration and competition projects attended by students aged 12 - 18 around the world.
The Forums are held 3-5 times a year. Around 3-5 representatives from each country are selected to meet weekly online. Students are grouped as equal global citizens into teams, assigned a country as their joint identity, and together throughout the month they will debate and co-author recommendation papers to solve a predefined Sustainable Development Goals-related challenge.
Celebrating Pi Day at BVIS
For this year’s Pi Day celebration, we challenged our students to see how many digits of Pi they could memorise.
The unofficial record is over 100,000 digits!
Our key stage 3 students really shone with this challenge. Students were able to memorise pi to over 50 digits progressed to the final.
On 14th March, which is International Pi Day, our finalists competed against each other to determine who ultimately knows Pi the best.
And, the winner is Quynh Anh (8I) who recited Pi to an amazing 145 digits!
STEAM WEEK
School value ENQUIRY
KS3 students embarked on an innovative painting adventure, exploring a fresh approach to artistic expression. Instead of conventional paintbrushes, they wielded Sphero robots, each controlled by their devices. With a nod to the iconic artist Jackson Pollock, students delved into the realm of abstract art, guiding the robots to create vibrant and dynamic compositions. The experience was not only educational but immensely enjoyable, as students reveled in the fusion of technology and creativity. As they witnessed their robotic creations come to life on canvas, the question lingered: could painting robots represent the future of art? Miss Shields, for one, hopes not, but the journey was undeniably captivating.
School value ENQUIRY and GLOBAL CITIZEN
KS3 had a The Climate change project which is part of a series of lessons on Turning Point in Chemistry.
After a series of lessons regarding Chemical Elements, The Carbon Cycle, The Earth and atmosphere, with the project about “Climate Change” the students had the chance to demonstrate understanding about environmental issues and sustainability, scientific research skills, ability to work in group, organizational and oral skills.
All the students were enthusiastic and committed, the quality of the work was fantastic and for their presentations, HP (and candies!) were awarded for each category. 😊
