Dear Parents
I am delighted to announce that our school has just been announced as a winner in the ISC International School Awards for 2024.
This is a superb achievement in such a prestigious competition and is just reward for the hard work all our staff and students put in every day. We can all proudly say we are officially now recognised amongst some of the best schools globally for what we achieve. Congratulations to everyone! This is in addition to the TES shortlisting announced last week.
A huge congratulations to our students who completed their Duke of Edinburgh silver award last weekend. An incredible achievement and one which they should all be very proud of. Congratulations to them all and a big thank you to all the staff who have supported them through their award.

The best possible learning and development - School value: Enquiry
The Early Years department is a key aspect of a school environment. The Early Years Centre at BVIS supports and extends children’s development and learning. An enabling environment encourages young children to learn and play when they feel relaxed, comfortable and ‘at home’. Children learn best when they feel emotionally safe and secure. They learn with an enquiring mind when they are able to explore and find out about the place they are in. The Early Years environment at BVIS can be described in terms of three aspects: The emotional environment, the outdoor environment and the indoor environment. These three aspects of the environment work together at BVIS creating the best possible learning and development for the children.
Tet Shoeboxes Project - School value: Caring
The Year 1 pupils were very enthusiastic about participating in the Tet Shoeboxes Project. They listened attentively as the teacher shared about the circumstances of disadvantaged children in Hanoi. Afterward, they discussed together what they could do to support these children and how to make a warmer Tet holiday for them. The children designed labels for the Tet gift boxes themselves and also made cards to send heartfelt wishes to the disadvantaged children.
Potted plants - School value: Caring
Year 2 students were very excited to participate in the activity of decorating pots from recycled bottles and planting trees. These potted plants will be sold to raise funds for service learning and contributing to meaningful activities for the community.
Listening, supporting and sharing opinion - IPC goal: Cooperation
Through group activities, the students have learned the importance of cooperation, as they have developed the ability to listen, support, and confidently share their own opinions. Year 3 has actively practiced and honed their teamwork skills together.
Preparing TET shoeboxes - School Value: Caring
Year 4 students have been learning about empathy, sharing and the habit of helping other people. They have been busy preparing TET shoeboxes for disadvantaged children. They have also been working with Early Years students, helping them to understand the importance of being kind and caring for others. Year 4 are excited to help those in need during Tet.
Ancient Greeks and Romans - Creativity
Year 5 students have been really enjoying studying the ancient Greeks and Romans, especially when they have opportunities to be creative! As well as making models of Trojan horses, we’ve been designing our own Ancient Greek gods and heroes to inspire us when doing our creative writing tasks.
Global citizens with a Vietnamese Perspective – IPC goal: Cooperation
Year 6 students have been working very hard to practice for the Tet Assembly performance. They are practicing seriously to have a wonderful performance at the Assembly next week. Through this activity, the students have learned the importance of cooperation.
School value PERSERVERANCE and INTEGRITY
The Boys' & Girls' Junior Varsity Basketball teams had an extremely successful weekend at the HAC Cup competition. The Girls’ team fought hard in the final to secure second place and the Boys' team were crowned Champions after winning their final. Congratulations!
School value ENQUIRY
Students have just completed their Jenny Willigrod inspired paintings. They studied this artist to take inspiration from her interesting compositions and use of contrasting colours. From this they experimented with acrylic paints and explored painting techniques such as blending, layers and creating textures. This was a really fun project, as a result students put in a lot of effort and created some fantastic pieces of art. Well done year 9, we cannot wait to see what you produce in term 2.

We are now getting fully into the swing of application season here at BVIS. Students are making some great applications to some outstanding schools, and we should be hearing in the next few months of their successes. Those that have made early applications have already received offers from Edinburgh (Russell Group) and Columbia (Ivy League) which has made some students very very happy.
We have also had some great offers from some top Hong Kong Universities, which is a first for our school this year. Alongside this we have seen an upward trend in students applying to more European universities in the last year or two and this year we have already received offers from the University of Amsterdam which again is ranked amongst the top schools of the world and 2nd in country. We will be looking forward to updating you soon on more offers as they start to be made across the coming months .... watch this space!
