Dear Parents
I am delighted to say that the results of the recent Parent Satisfaction survey have been released and I am extremely pleased and proud with the overall results for our school. The school has made significant strides since the last survey was completed. Many of our scores far exceed both NAE regional and NAE worldwide scores. I would like to thank all the parents who took the time to complete the survey it is really good information for us to use to further improve the school.
We will now take some time to fully digest the report and look at all the comments to ensure all requests and suggestions are considered carefully. There are always things we can improve on and in Term 3 I will host further parent meetings to inform you about further actions we will be taking based on the results of the survey feedback from you.
I am also delighted to announce that the school has had further recognition of our commitment to Social Impact with all students and have received the Bronze Certificate from NAE. Well done to everyone involved, this is another very prestigious award for the school.
It was exciting to see a group of students and staff head of to the NAE camp in Tanzania this week. This will be a life changing experience for them and another excellent reason why being part of NAE schools affords opportunities that others cannot get. We look forward to hearing about their wonderful experiences on their return.
This week you will have received a link for re-enrolment details via email. It is important that we plan the right number of classes and resources for the new academic year, so please support us by completing the survey request.
Please be reminded that when a child joins our school, you are asked to pay a security deposit. This deposit will be refunded to you providing you have completed the Withdrawal Notification Form and return to the school a minimum of 90 calendar days before the child is due to leave. You can collect a form from the Admissions Office in the school. To be eligible, you must have fully completed and returned this form to the school within the set deadline. We will not accept verbal confirmation of withdrawal, the form must be completed and returned. The deadline for receiving the withdrawal form, if your child is leaving at the end of this academic year, is Thursday 28th March 2024. Therefore, withdrawal forms must be received by this date.
As you receive this newsletter, I am attending the FOBISIA Principal/Heads meeting being hosted at our sister school BIS in Ho Chi Minh City. It is great to catch up with heads and principals from similar outstanding schools across the region. I anticipate bringing back many more good ideas for the benefit of our students.
I wish you all a very relaxing weekend ahead.
Deeper Learning
In Early Years, children are learning all the time. The process of learning is as important, if not more important, than the product. When children engage fully in the process, they achieve a deeper level of learning. Children learn best when they are happy and motivated to learn. The motivation comes from an exciting environment in which children can explore and from enthusiastic teachers who scaffold the learning.
Aliens Making Sandwiches?
The Year 1 students had an interesting week of studying volume in the Maths lesson. The children described the volume in a container using phrases such as “empty”, “nearly empty”, “nearly full” and “full practiced determining and comparing the amount of colored water in different containers. In addition, they were very excited to complete the task of making sandwiches and writing simple instructional texts for Aliens to follow during their English lesson.
Savannah Adaptations and a Bear Hunt
In IPC, Year 2 students used iPads to research adaptations of a Savannah animal. In addition, they also did some group performances of We are going on a bear hunt, they had to concentrate on using their speaking voice and actions.
Weights and Measures
Today, we have learned to read the scale and practice measuring weights using different types of scales. The children have worked collaboratively to support each other with the tasks.
Global Citizenship with a Vietnamese Perspective - Cooperating to Save Rhinos
Year 4 have been creating 3D posters to raise awareness about rhino adaptations, threats to rhinos and how we can help to protect them from going extinct. They began by researching rhinos and collecting information. They then worked together to plan their poster design. They used paper mâché and dry brushing to give the posters a 3D effect.
Storytelling and Roleplay with a Vietnamese Perspective
In Vietnamese lessons, Year 5 is learning about the legend of “An Duong Vuong and the Citadel of Co Loa”. Using actions to retell the story, the children absorbed and remembered the story quickly. They also showcased their creativity through engaging role-playing activities.
Global Citizenship – Researching the UK
Year 6 have been improving their research and teamwork skills. Students were put into groups where they had to research one aspect of the United Kingdom: climate, the economy, population and cities, physical landscape and environmental issues. They had to summarise and fact-check their research and then share their understanding of their research topic with the rest of the class.
School value ENQUIRY and GLOBAL CITIZEN
School value INTEGRITY, CARING and RESPECT
On January 27th and 28th, 2024, our secondary school students, Viet Khoa from year 8 and Trang Anh from year 9, showcased their talents in the musical production of 'Bonnie and Clyde' as members of Theat.R - RMIT Musical Theatre Club Hanoi. This captivating musical also featured the participation of two BVIS alumni students, including Khanh Phuong and My Anh Nguyen (Mina), who established the club after her BVIS journey and during her university pursuits.
Witnessing former students continue their artistic passion beyond school and inspiring younger peers to cultivate their performance skills was truly heart-warming. Each member of the cast exhibited remarkable discipline, confidence, and flair during the performance. We eagerly anticipate the emergence of more creative projects in the future. Congratulations to all involved!
Quote from Mina: “Theat.R - RMIT Musical Theatre Club Hanoi, I founded it in December 2022 with the vision to bring musical theatre closer to Vietnamese audiences. The passion for musical theatre grew in me when I had the opportunity to participate in BVIS's annual musical productions, that's why I want to bring it with me when I enter university”.
School value PERSERVERANCE and GLOBAL CITIZEN
On the 2nd of March, the BVIS Chess Team competed in the annual Fobisia Chess Tournament hosted by BIS Jakarta. 279 students and 63 teams took part in the largest online team schools' event in the world. Our team came in 3rd, an incredible performance.
The team also took part in the Global Campus Chess League on the 27th of February, and came 3rd overall again. The winning students are Quang Lam, Quang Anh, Tuan Huy, Quang Nguyen and Duc Manh.
School value INTEGRITY, RESPECT and CARING
The PE department set up a 3v3 Basketball League for KS3 students (boys and girls) at lunch time on Tuesday and Friday. This has been a great opportunity for students to participate in a sport that they enjoy in a competitive but supportive environment. Students have created their own teams, chosen a team name and turned up on time for their fixtures each week.
In addition, students from KS4 have been the referees and officials for this league. These students have been instrumental in the success of the league and have developed their leadership and organisational skills in the process. Another great opportunity for our students to develop their leadership skills!
School value GLOBAL CITIZEN and ENQUIRY
We were very pleased to welcome three highly qualified and experienced coaches from the British Football Academy in Singapore, to BVIS this week. They spent some time working with students across both primary and secondary to engage, develop and reinforce the football skills and drills already being developed here at school. They also spent some time working with our BVIS Dragons squads and took a deep dive into defending. Our KS4 and KS5 students learned a lot from these high-quality experiences. The sessions were high energy, all action and were an immense amount of fun.
The British Football Academy is renowned for its excellence in nurturing talent across all age groups and we are very pleased to be able to host them here at BVIS. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their inputs and look forward to further opportunities to create working relationships in the future.
