Dear families
Last weekend we were delighted to host the largest teaching and learning conference at our school. Over 200 teachers from across Asia, Middle East and India joined us for an inspiring 2 days of teacher development. Being part of NAE means that our staff get access to this cutting-edge training and shared practice that will be of enormous benefit to your children.
Our older students are now starting to do final preparations for their final exams that begin in a couple of months. We have one of the largest numbers of A-Level students and the one of the largest varieties of subject choices here in Vietnam. We wish them well in their preparations.
Our proven track record as a school has attracted a great deal of interest from universities across the world. Earlier in the year we hosted the largest ever university fair here at BVIS. I am delighted to say that yet again our students are excelling and we have some amazing offers already from some of the top universities across the world. You can access this link for a full list of top universities have sent offers to BVIS students.
I had the pleasure this week of meeting parents to discuss the successes we have already achieved at the school and some of the things I would like to achieve going forwards. Thank you to all those who attended one of my sessions.
Please be reminded that we are running summer school again this year. I hope many of the children will join us for an exciting few weeks.
I wish you all a very relaxing weekend ahead.
Instilling a Love of Reading
So please, oh PLEASE, we beg, we pray,
Go throw your TV set away,
And in its place you can install,
A lovely bookshelf on the wall.”
— Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
There are so many wonderful quotes about reading and books but there is something wonderful about browsing over a bookshelf. We have had books and stories galore in the Early Years this week. Books can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere – in the car, under the table, on our own or with friends. A huge thank you to all the Mystery Reader visitors that came to Early Years this week.
Year 1 and Year 4 share their favourite books
One of the exciting activities during the book week that Year 1 participated in at the beginning of the week was sharing their favourite book with Year 4 students. After that, they all drew and made crafts of the characters in the story.
Year 2 read with Year 5
Reading books with Year 5 is one of the Book Week activities that Year 2 students love. In addition, they also cleverly created bookmarks together.
Tasting fresh cocoa beans
The IPC lesson is so interesting when Year 3 get to directly handle and taste fresh cocoa beans. In addition, the students discuss and collaborate in groups to create a cocoa tree model.
Five Ways to Wellbeing!
Year 4 enjoy focusing on their wellbeing each morning. On Tuesdays we have ‘Show and Tell’ where the students get a chance to show something that is important to them and speak about it in front of the class.
Ancient Rome through a journalistic eye
In the last week, Year 5 continued learning about Ancient Rome. They created newspaper events and placed these on a timeline.
Poetic explorers
Year 6 had a wonderful week of Talk for Writing. Children used actions to remember the poem. The lesson became more interesting with many activities such as singing and rapping poems. In IPC, they created amazing three-room house (Nhà Ba Gian) designs along with geographical exploration on the world map.

SERVICE-LEARNING UPDATE
I wanted to take a moment to emphasize the importance of social purpose in our students' education and personal growth. At BVIS, we believe that instilling a sense of social responsibility in our students is crucial for their overall development and future success.
In today's world, there are numerous opportunities for leadership, outreach, and charity work. By engaging in these activities, our students not only learn the value of helping others but also experience a profound sense of fulfillment. We firmly believe that by actively participating in initiatives that benefit our community, our students have the chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of others.
BVIS provides various hands-on activities that allow students to implement real change. Through these projects, your students have developed a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by different communities and more importantly do something to change it! Let’s see what the students have been up to in the last few weeks...
Keep Hanoi Clean
The Year 12 students once again teamed up with Keep Vietnam Clean this year to celebrate Kitchen God Day and raise awareness of the need to look after our environment. The students went to the Red River in Long Bien to clean the river beach of plastic waste. The students successfully collected a huge amount of rubbish. They also educated the locals on the importance of not throwing their plastic waste into river when they release their fish to celebrate Kitchen God Day. Well done Year 12!
Care for the Community
The Year 8 students went out into their community to support the Khuong Dinh Elderly Club. BVIS Hanoi donated all the resources to make 500 chủng cakes for the local community. Our students helped make these cakes before they were distributed. They had a great day with the community, where they also got to experience and enjoy Vietnamese traditional music and dance. What a wonderful day!
Help Hanoi Homeless
The students in Year 12 and 13 had a fantastic time distributing items to Hanoi’s homeless community. The student led activity successfully collected items donated by BVIS’s community and distributed them to the community. Our students worked tirelessly travelling around Hanoi and helped more than 400 homeless people in one evening. Well done all!
