As an entry point to our Ancient Greece topic, Year 6 held their very own Ancient Greek Symposium. A Symposium, as is depicted in Plato’s famous work of the same name, is where philosophers would gather to share food and their thoughts on some of the great questions about life.
Year 6 formed into small groups to discuss a variety of child-friendly philosophical questions including:
Each group addressed the symposium in turn with their thoughts on their question. Lively discussion and a fantastic, authentic feast followed. This was a wonderful chance for students to develop their public speaking and debating skills.
As our topic progressed, we have also investigated events of the Ancient Greek period by examining secondary sources. Following this investigation, we created our own secondary sources by designing Ancient Greek pottery using red-figure and black- figure painting. From Gods and mythological beasts to Olympic events and everyday life, we created designs featuring aspects of Ancient Greek culture.
