Year 8 Students Comic Book Competition Results

Congratulations to Simon Huang and Max Turner for making it into the final five in the Nord Anglia Global Campus Comic Book competition 2020-21.  With many entries from schools across the Nord Anglia Education, we are extremely proud of Max and Simon.

I did a quick interview with our comic book artists via virtual school to discover the secret behind their amazing comic, which also features a fantastic invention to tackle climate change.

How did you come up with the idea for your invention and how does it tackle climate change?

"We were learning about energy in year 7 and heat was a form of energy. So it would be possible to take the heat from the air and transform it into better and more useful energy. We came up with the idea of a Thermal Energy Converter. Our invention makes the air colder because heat is a form of energy so we can make the air colder and gain power at the same time. The energy it gains is electrical energy that gets transported to the electrical wires to be put to good use."

Max how did you work as a team?

"We both had separate roles to help make a good comic book. I made the storyline and most of the ideas and Simon did the drawing."

Simon what makes a good character?

"A good character needs distinct features and also unique characteristics. The characters should also have contrast so it can be good to have a good character that contrasts well with an evil nemesis. This makes the story more interesting."

Max what makes a good comic book?

"A good comic requires jokes and some unique parts that are not in most comics. One of the problems we faced was the template for the competition was only six boxes. Simon came up with the solution to split the parts of comic boxes into several scenes so you can add more scenes into one box. Other creative layouts could also be using shapes such as triangles. Comic books also need onomatopoeias that are big. The most important thing is a great comic book needs lots of action."

Thanks, Max and Simon, and well done on reaching the final five. Although not accessible to parents, our students can view more on our Global Campus page here.
