On Saturday 30th March, our school hosted its first Model United Nations conference where the Human Rights Council hosted and debated a resolution meeting on the current humanitarian situation in Yemen.
BISB students hosted another Budapest school, Karinthy Frigyes Gimnászium. Attending the conference were 25 delegates, each representing a different UN member state. The conference was chaired and organised by members of our own Model United Nations Co-Curricular Activity in the spirit of the student-led nature of Model United Nations.
Students successfully debated two resolutions that were drafted and debated on in the boisterous chamber floor of our Theatre with admins kept busy with a flurry of notes and pages whizzing between delegates. BISB students tasted some overall success as Sebastian Ramirez in Year 12 was awarded ‘Best Resolution’ as the delegate representing Syria and Zahra Zulqarnain in Year 11 was awarded ‘Best Speech’ as the delegate representing Saudi Arabia.
We would like to thank Karinthy Frigyes Gimnászium for sending an experienced, competitive and supportive team of delegates, Hannah Aref, YingYi Liu, and Anira Colacios Toledo for working as all-important admins, all of our students who attend our MUN CCA and who have worked hard to make the CCA and related events their own. Finally, thank you to all teachers and support staff who helped us to host this wonderful event.
