Our U19 Girls opened the year in September by winning the ENASA inaugural U19 Football cup with a clean sweep of wins. They provided everyone with great entertainment and proof that they were by far the strongest team that competed on that day. The girls have never shunned a challenge and it started the year off so well! We knew this was the springboard to motivate every girl from U11, that this could be our year, as long as we treated every game with respect. In October we had our first DVAC festival, in which we met some very physical challenges late on in the day. We never let this dampen our spirits and again won 3 out of the four matches, drawing 1 and winning the festival for a third year running. Finally we competed in the DVAC tournament. It was a bitterly cold afternoon, but it didn’t stop us rising to the challenge and bringing back the DVAC trophy. Again we won 3, and drew 1. The girls have shown great energy in these competitions and even when their legs have given up the chase, they’ve shown great ambition and desire to complete the job at hand.
Our U14 Girls have also started the year nicely, with some fine displays of skillful football. It has been a huge transition period for the team, as many of the older players have moved up an age group. Fortunately, they have shown so much of the strength and spirit that made last year’s team so strong. We opened up our year by competing in the DVAC festival in Vienna. After some fantastic performances against some well-prepared teams, we finished the day in second place. In our DVAC tournament it just wasn’t our day. We started the day brightly but struggled to get a foothold in the games that followed. Following some well fought battles, we finished 5th but we took away from that day some lessons about what we need to strengthen. We will pick ourselves up and look towards the next opportunity to prove ourselves.
I am immensely proud of what we have achieved so far this year and can see that we have the character to build on these results. As always, I’d like to thank not just the girls, but also the support and patience of the parents.
