OUR MISSION

  • Support students as they learn to read and read to learn.
  • Teach students to use skills, tools, and resources to inquire, think critically, gain knowledge, and participate ethically.
  • Enable students to develop a lifelong passion for reading.
  • Support teachers to incorporate information literacy, technology, and powerful literature in their classrooms.

LIBRARY POLICIES

  • Library books may be kept for one week (1st – 3rd grade) or two weeks (4th-12th grade), and then must be returned.
  • A book may be renewed (checked out again) if the student is not finished reading it. An overdue (late) book means a student cannot borrow another book (until the overdue book is returned).
  • Students are responsible to handle library books with care, since they are for everyone to share.
  • Any book damage should be reported to the library as soon as possible so we can attempt repairs.
  • If a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, payment toward a replacement will be requested from the parents.

book return

We kindly inform you that the process of textbook and library book return will begin on Friday, June 10th until Friday, June 28th, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. In order to promote an agile process for our school community when the books are returned, we will respect the following guidelines:

  • The book receipt staff will be located in the access area of Calle Víctor Garrido Puello. The staff will be distributed in three receipt stations. If you need support, the school staff will assist you with the books.
  • Book return will be scheduled through appointments of 20 minutes per family. Once your appointment is registered in the system you will receive a confirmation email with its date and time. If you do not receive it, please check in your Spam folder or contact Jesús Polanco, Head of the IT Department at his email jpolanco@saintgeorge.do.
  • In case of having books pending return from the library, you will receive an email notification detailing the book and its cost if it has been lost. For more information, please contact bibliotecasgs@saintgeorge.do.
  • We have included a list by grade of the books that must be returned, as some workbooks do not need to be returned. Any questions in this regard, please contact Mrs. Desirée Gómez at ext. 201 or email dgomez@saintgeorge.do.
  • Please take into account that in the event that a book has been lost or mistreated, payment must be made for its replacement as established in the policy (please see below). These payments must be made via credit card. If you have not delivered books by June 26th, the last day to return books, an automatic debt will be generated. In both cases, the amount owed must be paid in order to receive the textbooks for the next school year, a process that will begin approximately at the beginning of August.

POLICY FOR BOOK LOAN AND RETURN

1. The school is committed to provide each student with the textbooks and workbooks required per grade, except some pertaining to the International Baccalaureate Program (IB).

2. Reading selections from 5th Prep-6 Form must be purchased by the parents.

3. Each parent/guardian will be required to sign a receipt for the books supplied; school will keep copy of same.

4. Books supplied by the school may be new or used.

5. No books will be changed after being received.

6. Each book has a barcode on the back cover which must not be damaged: scribbled, torn, detached, etc.

7. If it is necessary for the parent/guardian to cover any books, this must be done with clear adhesive plastic cover and the name label stuck to this, not onto the book cover itself.

8. The books supplied will remain the property of the school and may be subject to inspection at any time.

9. Parents/guardians and students are responsible for all textbooks issued to them by the school.

10. Lost books will be taken to the School Library. SGS will charge students a RD$50.00 penalty for each returned book after the second loss. This penalty has the objective of instilling in students a sense of responsibility for the books assigned to them.

11. If during the school year the student losses a book, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to pay the price of same as new for the school to replace it.

12. If at the end of the school year the books are not returned or are in unacceptable condition, the parent/guardian must cover the cost of new books.
Unacceptable condition – Includes missing or torn pages, obscured or unreadable text, torn or missing cover.

13. Returned books with different barcodes to those assigned on the receipt issued to the parent/guardian when books were received will not be accepted.

14. Books which include CDs must be returned with these or the book will not be accepted and will have to be paid as new.
