The Nord Anglia Education Snow Sports Expedition returned this year after a three-year hiatus and was in extremely popular demand. Twelve Year 9 students were lucky enough to have been randomly selected from their applications to attend this exhilarating learning experience.
The students had the opportunity to travel to Les Martinets, Villars-sur-Glane in Switzerland, with a stunning mountain backdrop surrounding us. As you can imagine, the slopes were both beautiful and cold, and our days were equally filled with laughter and soreness. Our resilience was repeatedly tested at every turn, fall, and roll. However, the students remained positive and made lifelong memories with new friends with the students from NAE Dublin who shared our chalet. Chalet life was full of board games, tobogganing, quizzes, movie nights, and food... oh the food! Students had the opportunity to participate in either skiing or snowboarding, from beginner to advanced levels. They developed valuable life skills like leadership, self-reliance, risk-taking and perseverance.
Angela, a DCIS parent shared that her child had “the best time on the ski trip and made some new friends from the NAE school in Ireland. Thank you so much Dylan & David for a wonderful trip.”
“I really enjoyed going tobogganing and having the opportunity to talk and connect with people from the other schools.” said Ishaan, a Year 9 student.
Annika, a Year 9 student agreed: “I enjoyed skiing freely down the mountains on the second last day and the competition held on the last day of skiing.”
To prepare for the physical demands of hiking in the Swiss Alps, our students had to go through rigorous early morning training regime to ensure they are prepared. We couldn’t be prouder to see them achieving more than they imagined possible.
