During Book Week 2025, the Dover Court community came together to celebrate the joy of reading through engaging activities and inspiring discussions. This year's theme was "Read Your Way," which encourages everyone to set aside reading pressures and expectations, empowering children and young people to explore reading on their own terms.

In the Primary School, classrooms were connected through story chains as students collaborated on shared stories. Vibrant door decorations displayed beloved characters and books, igniting creativity and imagination. During shared reading sessions, learning buddies paired up, fostering connections and sparking discussions about different stories. At Primary assemblies, our talented students performed short plays, and we proudly announced the winners of the recent writing competition. Witnessing our students' creativity and passion for storytelling was truly inspiring!

The DCA Pre-loved Book Fair once again offered a fantastic opportunity for students to explore new titles and discover new books they could enjoy. A huge thank you goes to our student and DCA parent volunteers for their incredible efforts in making this event a success.

Reflecting on the week, Mr Buckley, our Head of Primary, shared, “This week has been filled with excitement as the whole school came together to celebrate Book Week! Our students have had a wonderful time immersing themselves in the world of books, with book character parades and dress-up being a particular highlight. A big thank you to our teachers and parent volunteers for their support during the second-hand book sale. It's lovely to see the excitement created among our students around reading and books! Finally, thank you to all the parents and caregivers who helped their children organise their book parade costumes; they looked fantastic!”

Meanwhile, Book Week in the Secondary School focused on thoughtful discussions about reading habits. Students had the opportunity to share what they love about reading and their reasons for reading less or not enjoying it as much. The discussions were lively, with many students expressing a desire to rekindle their love for books, explore audiobooks, or widen their reading choices.

Additionally, Secondary teachers shared their personal reading experiences through the "Match the Selfie to the Shelfie" display in the Red Dot Restaurant, where students demonstrated their knowledge by quickly matching each bookshelf to its owner.

Like Primary, the Book Week costumes in Secondary were a magnificent sight as well, with students from all year groups showcasing their impressive creativity. Many costumes were handmade or crafted from recycled materials, emphasising sustainability while inspiring creativity. House Points and book voucher prizes were plentiful!
