For their exciting term 2 STEAM challenge Year 5 have learnt all about how animals have adapted to their environment.
The children in Year 5 focussed specifically on the way that animals have changed their colouration in order to camouflage into their surroundings and we used these ideas to create our own new camouflages. We undertook 4 different activities using skills in art, engineering, technology and maths. Task one involved us drawing a pattern onto a 2D net of an animal before cutting and folding it to create a 3D animal which could be hidden. During task two, we used face paint to disguise our hand to match a patterned background. Task 3 saw us using a green screen app on the iPads to camouflage ourselves into a new scene. Finally, task 4, the most challenging, involved us hiding a member of our group somewhere around school by designing and creating a mask and T-shirt that could be worn as the camouflage. Our camouflaging skills are now so good, will you ever be able to find us again?
