He spent three days with us and during this time he ran workshops for the music staff, observed them teach, and also taught himself. A variety of classes were involved all the way from Year 1 to Year 10.
Friday saw Steve's focus shift to the PIPS/SIPS team, where he conducted exclusive workshops tailored to their needs. A highlight of the day was his hands-on involvement in a Year 8 SIPS lesson, where he guided students through the nuances of applying articulation to their instrumental playing. It was wonderful to have all the instruments in the same room together. We were all very impressed with the students involved.
These visits are part of our ongoing collaboration with The Juilliard School in NYC, and the curriculum specialist visits allow our staff to gain some CPD training on the materials and also allow us to show off how we are using them and how much our students are benefiting from them. Although Steve has now returned to New York, he remains in constant contact throughout the year as a thought partner for our work with the Juilliard programme.
We look forward to welcoming him to our school again next year.
