At BSB Shunyi, we’re excited to welcome a special new friend to our community: Lingling, a curious and friendly snake inspired by the Chinese zodiac Year of the Snake in 2025. Lingling has set out on a journey across Nord Anglia Education’s family of schools in China, and he’s eager to learn all about what makes each of our schools so special.
Known in Chinese culture for wisdom and prosperity, the snake also has a few qualities to work on—like a tendency toward vanity and selfishness. As Lingling travels from school to school, he’ll meet each of our unique mascots, learn about our values, and grow alongside our students in new and inspiring ways. Through his adventures, Lingling will see firsthand what it means to be a part of the Nord Anglia family, committed to inclusivity, diversity, and academic excellence.
Discovering Friendship and Learning Together at BSB Shunyi
As Lingling arrives at BSB Shunyi, he’s greeted by our mascot, BSB Bear, who is eager to show him around and share the qualities that make our school a special place to learn and grow. Together, they visit some of the most cherished spots on campus, from our dedicated libraries for Early Years, Primary and Secondary, parent-run Chatter Box Café, to our Performing Arts space and Design Technology lab where our students learn about collaboration, creativity, and kindness.
Lingling was honoured to be featured in the BSB Shunyi’s CNY Greeting Card Art Contest! More than 50 entries were received, thank you to everyone who participated.

Through this experience, he begins to understand that learning isn’t just about facts and figures—it’s about becoming a compassionate, well-rounded person who values others and contributes positively to their community.
Learning the Importance of Diversity and Inclusion
As Lingling meets more students and teachers, he sees that BSB Shunyi is a place where everyone is welcome, and where differences are celebrated. Our school prides itself on fostering a community that values every culture, perspective, and talent.
Lingling was just in time to join our BSB Temple Fair. He enjoyed learning with our students about the traditional Chinese culture and how we celebrate Spring Festival here.
The BSB Shunyi community has around 60+ nationalities and every year we celebrated International Day. Lingling learns that being part of a diverse school community means sharing different perspectives, supporting each other, and finding strength in our differences. With BSB Bear guiding him, he begins to see that diversity and inclusivity aren’t just words at BSB Shunyi; they’re values that shape who we are and help our students prepare to become thoughtful, global citizens.

As Lingling continues his tour, he notices that our students at BSB Shunyi are always excited to learn and grow. Lingling is curious to see how dedicated our students and teachers are to achieving their best, whether they’re studying, collaborating, or exploring new ideas.
Lingling is especially impressed by our STEAM Curriculum developed in collaboration with MIT. The MIT-NAE collaboration is unique to BSB and Nord Anglia students who can participate in exciting challenges designed by leading MIT professors built into our daily STEAM curriculum. MIT provides excellent materials and resources to ensure our students can explore, have fun and be curious about the world around them.
Watching our students tackle new challenges, Lingling sees that true excellence means giving your best, learning from mistakes, and always striving to improve. With BSB Bear by his side, Lingling realizes that there’s a lot he can learn from our school’s commitment to academic excellence and our passion for helping every student reach their full potential.
