A WARM WELCOME AWAITS

As an academically inclusive school, we have vast experience in welcoming incoming students from many different education systems.

If your child is joining us from another school, we may request their school reports and academic transcripts, as well as personal recommendations from their previous school.

If your child has minor learning difficulties, we may be able to cater to their needs and we may require additional assessment documentation.

LANGUAGES

We teach in English. However, if English isn’t your family’s first language, we have an excellent English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme, which caters for children who arrive at our school with little or no English. Through our programme’s effectiveness and in our English-speaking environment, children pick up the language incredibly quickly!

Mandarin Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world. We provide our children, from beginners to native speakers, with the opportunity to learn Mandarin. New children are evaluated on arrival at the school before being placed into one of our ability classes. Existing pupils are put into a stream according to their previous performance and academic records.

Our special German Curriculum Primary School (Years 1-6) teaches in German with a selection of classes in English. We also offer a unique native German language programme for our German students who choose to join the UK education stream. This is available across our whole school: ages 2 to 18 in EYFS, Primary, and Secondary School levels.

Finally, BSB Shunyi offers an exceptional Korean native speaker class for ages 11-18. Starting in Year 7 of Secondary School, Korean native students can continue to grow their Korean language ability as they progress through the British curriculum.

WHAT NATIONALITIES CAN APPLY?

BSB is licensed as an expat school under the Ministry of Education and can only accept qualified students who hold a foreign passport with the appropriate visa.

In accordance with the new requirements implemented by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission (BMEC) for applicants from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, the student must be foreign passport holders (including passports of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan). Students from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan must also hold a travel permit (回乡证, 台胞证).If your family hold other countries’ Permanent Residence (PR), or the student holds a foreign passport and travel document, please submit your family's document to our Admissions team for consultation.Please note that original documents need to be provided during application process.

PLACEMENT IN A YEAR GROUP

A student’s placement in a year group is determined according to their birthdate, academic level, maturity and language ability.
