THE BSB SHUNYI IGCSE CURRICULUM

SUBJECT CHOICES AT BSB SHUNYI IGCSE SCHOOL

Our Year 10 and 11 students (ages 14 to 16-years-old) study for their Cambridge IGCSEs.

At this point in their education, our young people make choices about the direction and focus of their learning. These choices often mark the beginning of their journey to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, university, and employment. When choosing their IGCSE subject options, learners carefully consider their interests, strengths, and ambitions. 

Alongside their IGCSE subject choices, our students study a compulsory IGCSE curriculum, which includes English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Global Perspectives. They also take part in guidance lessons that cover broader topics, such as life, health, well-being, careers, and higher education.

To create a healthy balance between mind and body, our young people also take core PE, which is offered separately to the IGCSE PE qualification.

CAMBRIDGE IGCSE COURSES AT BSB SHUNYI

BSB Shunyi’s IGCSE courses are carefully adapted to our international student body, offering a truly global educational experience.

Cambridge IGCSE qualifications are recognised around the world, having been established more than 30 years ago. Today, IGCSEs are the world’s most popular international programme for 14 to 16-year-olds. IGCSE courses offer more options than any other international qualification, creating more pathways and greater opportunities for our students’ talents to shine. 

Cambridge IGCSE subject qualifications are highly prized by top higher education institutions in the UK, US, Canada, Europe, and beyond, including MIT, Harvard, and Cambridge. Universities tell us they value the independent research and critical thinking skills our learners develop, as well as their in-depth subject knowledge. We work with universities when we revise our qualifications, gaining expert advice to make sure we continually meet expectations.  

At the end of their two-year IGCSE curriculum at BSB Shunyi, Beijing – and after successfully completing all requirements and exams – our students are formally awarded a certified qualification in each subject completed.

A SMOOTH TRANSITION FROM OUR IGCSE COURSES

Our bespoke Academic Bridging Programme called the Journey to the IB  supports the seamless transition from the BSB Shunyi IGCSE curriculum to our IB Diploma Programme (IBDP).


Our Journey to the IB gives students an insight into the requirements of the IB Diploma, including the IBDP mission, its approach, and IB core programme elements. The Journey to the IB programme  gives students an early opportunity to collaborate with peers through enquiry and reflection, and to explore the subjects we offer from a range of perspectives. This programme takes place in the last week of the term  after the IGCSE exams to ensure that all students can participate. We expect all our Year 11s to participate.
