James received Top in China Award for IGCSE Design and Technology

Congratulations to James Thorp who has achieved the Top in China Award for Cambridge IGCSE Design Technology in the June 2022 examinations!

James is excited to finally receive this Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award at a ceremony in Beijing on 14th April, 2023 (postponed due pandemic restrictions).

Dr. Jing Zhao, Cambridge Assessment International Education, Regional Director, East Asia said: “It is extremely rewarding to congratulate Cambridge learners and teachers at The British School of Beijing (BSB), Shunyi. The results are a reflection of the enormous talent in Beijing not only amongst learners but also within the teaching profession. Learners from BSB have a bright future ahead of them, and I wish them every success in their future.”

Mrs. Jayne Needham, BSB Shunyi Principal said that the awards recognised the talent, dedication and commitment of both learners and staff. “We are extremely proud of James’ achievement. It is a reflection of his commitment and hard work as well as his natural talent in this subject”.

James joined BSB in Year 7 and is now in Year 12 studying for the IB Diploma Programme. We wish him all the best as he continues his pathway to university and further studies.

Cambridge Qualifications

BSB Shunyi follows the British National Curriculum and students in Key Stage 4 (Year 10 and 11) studies the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Programme. IGCSE gives students the opportunity to shape their own learning and choose subjects according to their interests and aspirations. They then take the IGCSE examinations at the end of this two-year programme.

For most subjects, BSB students will complete the IGCSE offered by the Cambridge Assessment International Education exam board, and some subjects offered by Edexcel.

Cambridge IGCSE were created more than 30 years ago and is wholly owned by the University of Cambridge. Today, it’s the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year-olds. The IGCSE qualification is accepted and valued by universities around the world.
