All students in Years 4, 5 and 6 put on an amazing BSB Music Circuses last week and delighted the audience!
On Tuesday 18th April, they performed on their chosen string instruments: violin, cello and guitar. Each group from Years 4, 5, and 6 had their turn on stage, ending in an amazing performance by the Junior Orchestra.
On Thursday, 20th April, it was the winds students’ turn: flute, clarinet, French horn, trumpet and trombone, and then the Junior Wind Band concluded the show!
For many students, this was their first time performing in front of a large audience and they did a wonderful job!
Let's hear from the students!
Jihyo Y4: Everyone thinks the guitar is so cool, and they are right! But what people don’t know is that is a bit quiet. We do not play electric guitar… yet!
Tashvi Y5: We LOVE music! In this group, each student has a different story with the violin – some have played for years, and some just started recently.
Valerie Y5: No matter what your story is, it is great that we can always make music together.
Hany Y6: We just have two months left in the Primary Instrumental Programme, but this doesn’t have to be the end. It is important to continue studying an instrument…not to mention fun!

Primary Instrumental Programme (PIPs)
At BSB Shunyi, all students in Years 1 to 6 participate in the Primary Instrumental Programme (PIPs) as part of our curriculum supported by the NAE-Juilliard Performing Arts Programme.
Year 1-2 students study the recorder. Years 3-6 students have lessons on violin, cello, guitar, flute, clarinet, French horn, trumpet or trombone. In Year 3, all students rotate every month to try out each of the 8 instruments. Then in Year 4, they choose which instrument they would like to study in depth and continue with that instrument until the end of Year 6.
Students are always excited on their PIPs days and show such enthusiasm. From Beethoven to pop music, the lesson days mean hundreds of Primary students are playing music on a variety of instruments and showing progress every week.
