Our little learners participate in Chinese lessons in the best ways possible: singing, dancing, and sharing stories with their friends! This week, we celebrated the Cultural Week by taking part in all the fun activities about the diversity of cultures around the world. Children learn different types of Chinese food and costumes. They have also shared the cultural knowledge they know about their own countries. They learn vital speaking and listening skills, and practise turn taking too.
The Year 2 children have learnt a very exciting topic! We have been spending the last two weeks learning about food. This week the children have made their own burgers, sandwiches and salad using clay. They have used the sentence pattern to introduce how to make a burger. Don’t be surprised when you hear a Year 2 child use all the perfect Chinese words at our sandwich stand!
The Year 3 and Year 4 children had a great time learning stories. They’ve practised their vocabularies with live games and acting out the stories. It’s amazing to see how children worked collaboratively and creatively.
There are many different ways to learn a new language, just like the children at BSB Sanlitun, and hopefully you too will find what works best for you!

Storytelling is at the heart of everything we do, and it extends far beyond literacy. It is transdisciplinary, meaning children naturally integrate their knowledge of phonics into storytelling, create maths stories, and weave in elements of science, curiosity, and their understanding of the world.
This term, Year 2 have been learning about many interesting people in our ‘What makes someone inspirational?' Topic. They have explored space pioneers, technology forerunners, civil right activists, inventors and many other inspiring individuals.
