BISB Mathematicians Excel in the UK Maths Challenge

1

On the 29th January BISB’s year 9, 10 and 11 mathematicians competed in the UK Maths Challenge (UKMT). This is a global maths competition run by the UK Mathematics trust featuring questions centred on problem solving that allow students to develop logic and reasoning. Students who rank globally in the top 50% receive a Bronze, top 30% Silver and top 10% Gold.

BISB obtained 16 Golds, 25 Silvers and 26 Bronze certificates with Yinyin X. (Y10) and Harry T. (Our only Y8 entry) achieving a near perfect score and being invited to the Global Olympiads, including the Hamilton competition which they will sit on the 20th March. The top student in Y9 was Seonyul K. and in Y11 Lee S.

This is an outstanding achievement, especially for those who opted to enter in year 9 as they were competing against students from two-year groups above. All students who obtained an award will be celebrated in the end of term assembly.

If you are interested, please speak with your Maths teacher as we run the competition annually.
