Year 13 - Trip to Recsk

1
The Hungarian and History Year 13 groups both visited Recsk as part of a cross-curricular activity, brought together by our common topic of the Gulag, a former forced labour camp from Hungary's communist era. The Hungarian class participated because of the famous poet George Faludy, who was a prisoner at Recsk, while the history class attended to learn more about the Gulags and the broader context of communism. The day was both sobering and educational as we learned about the harsh conditions prisoners endured and the political repression during the 1950s. Walking through the remains of the camp, we gained a deeper understanding of this chapter in Hungary's history and the importance of remembering such events.
