Global Campus Digital Habitat Competition

Global Campus Digital Habitat Competition - Global Campus Digital Habitat Competition

The Changemakers are launching the Global Campus Digital Habitat Competition. If your child is interested in animals and enjoys building in Minecraft, this could be the perfect opportunity to combine these passions and raise awareness for endangered and vulnerable animals. The task is to research an endangered / vulnerable animal and design a habitat for it to live in using a programme such as Minecraft. It is important to research the ideal habitat (physical environment) carefully and to create a space for the animal to thrive in, ensuring there is:

  • access to food and water
  • shelter and an area to sleep in
  • animals / plants that are necessary for survival ( where animals and plants are co-dependent)
  • space to play and grow in
  • protection from dangers and threats that they face

More details are on the Global Campus, which can be accessed through the IT Portal. Please find more information attached here.

The deadline for submission to school is MONDAY 15th APRIL. This will allow us to select the winning entries for each age group.

There is a Powerpoint template to use, which can be accessed on the Global Campus website.

Please contact Lesley McDonald lesley.mcdonald@bisb.hu for more information. This is available for all students in the school.

Endangered Animal Habitat Diorama Project

Alongside the Digital Habitat Competition, we are also offering a different opportunity to create a habitat for an endangered animal. For these students who prefer to create practically or who do not have the skill set to design habitats using a digital platform, we are asking for students to create a diorama of an endangered animal’s habitat and bring it into school for an exhibition. A diorama is a model representing a scene in 3D, often using a box to do so. The animal should be listed as endangered or vulnerable and when creating the habitat, should include the following details:

  • access to food and water
  • shelter and an area to sleep in
  • animals / plants that are necessary for featured animal’s survival
  • space to play and grow in

You might want to include some of your research stuck to the outside of the box – or in another creative way.

Examples of dioramas are included here.

Models should be brought into school no earlier than Monday 18th March and no later than Wednesday 17th April.
