Dear parents,

The highlight of the weekend was the Christmas Fair, which brought festive cheer and excitement. Let’s take a quick look back, in a nutshell!

Our decorators were hard at work again on Friday evening to help prepare the magical setting of the Christmas Fair. A huge thank you to Judit Orban and all the volunteers who stayed at school on a Friday!

On Saturday morning vendors and happy children arrived to set up their stalls and the smells of delicious food filled the air. The day started with wonderful performances by our performing art students in the dining room followed by a show case of Hungarian Dances. A range of stalls by year group students and CCAs were set-up in the gym. The Christmas market was filled by a range of vendors, a photo corner, a quiet Lego play corner, pre-loved books and costumes, Henna tattoos, chess games, and an opportunity to visit Santa and let’s not forget the twist of the barrel which kept many children busy until presents run out! The raffle table which attracted lots of interest thanks to our sponsors’ generous gifts make many happy winners who came to collect their prices before the fair came to a close at 2 pm. We would like to thank all volunteers who helped out at the stalls as well as our vendors and sponsors.

A special thank you goes to Sophia Verykios, who played a key role in organizing and ensuring the success of this year’s Christmas Fair. A big thank you to Luca Thompson for all wonderfully executed graphic designs, to Kata and Mihaly Kasos for all their efforts in putting together the Tombola, to Andrea Ainsworth and Julia Kulish for coordinating the secondary stalls and external vendors, to Adrienn Vigh for all her help in securing helpers to make the Christmas fair possible. Alexander Yurlov and Elena Lvova for running the Santa corner. Petra Puskas for organising and running the Pre-loved Books and costume sales. A huge thank you also to Peter Ronaszeki for offering the pictures to all our guests, to Simon Marcu for running the Chess Stall, our dedicated Indian parents who brought us their beautiful Henna skills and last but not least, to Tanja Jaser and Silvia Baks for the online communication! We are grateful to all primary stuff who put together the year group stalls and to Chris Russel for taking on the role of the Raffle Master.

This all would not have been possible without the support of Zsuzsa Szemerey and her team, the maintenance, the cleaners and security guards were wonderful and so was Miki Matrai for the technical support and the Marketing Department and especially Miklos Kispal and Orsolya Csollak for always being there for us.

Finally, we would like to thank the Performing Arts Department and Sarah James for putting up a wonderful program for us and to Bea Bocz and Flora Seres and the Hungarian dancing club for sharing the wonderful traditional dances. We were delighted to welcome back Jon Taylor to play the piano!

We also had some wonderful student volunteers, a Special thank you to Sofia, Matthew, Charlie, Edu, Dani and Leo

For those who were not there for the Raffle Draw, you will find the list below. Please contact us on +36 20225 3555, to come and collect your prices by Wednesday 11th December.

Pre-Loved Book Sale: A Successful Event of Sustainability and Community Spirit

The Pre-Loved Book Sale, organised by volunteer parents, continues to foster a sense of community and sustainability at our school. This year, we started with an impressive inventory of 850 books and successfully sold 230 of them, raising a value of approximately 610 HUF per book (roughly £1.2 / €1.47 / $1.54).

Our mission, rooted in sustainability and the circular economy, encourages the reuse of books and promotes the importance of reading over digital entertainment. The event was driven by two core values: care and kindness. Volunteers meticulously handled each book with respect, especially the older ones, recognising that every book carries a history of its own. We also took great care in ensuring the books were stored in an organised and tidy space, reflecting the respect we hold for each donation.

The sale also reinforced our commitment to promoting reading in children, offering them a chance to enjoy the magic of books in an age where screen-based activities dominate their time.

The next Pre-Loved Book Sale will take place during Book Week in March 2025, where we look forward to another successful event that will continue to celebrate the joy of reading, sustainability, and community spirit.

A big thank you to the 11 volunteers who made this event possible, with special appreciation for the 3 new volunteers who joined us for the first time. We are grateful for everyone’s dedication to making this event a success!!
