Year 6 Biomes Project

In year 6, the children have been studying different biomes around the world. They were put into groups and chose a particular biome to study in depth. This involved looking at the features found in this environment, the animals and plants which thrive in the habitat, where it appears geographically on a map and then they researched a location within the biome.

On Tuesday morning, the students had an opportunity to present the results of their research to their parents. Having looked at different presentation skills, such as using a clear voice, using gestures and thinking about specialised language, the students had a chance to put this into practice and share their learning with parents in the year group.

YES project

Recently, as a hook in to YES Project, the students had the chance to learn a range of new skills, following a carousel around the Year 6 classrooms. They had the chance to practise using saws and cardboard to make joins for a frame, to make simple mechanisms for toys, to use yarn for weaving & craft making and to learn different sewing techniques.

This will help the students to think about what products they can make in their YES Project groups, ready for sale in December at the fair.
