BISB Wolves Newsroom DVAC tournament results from last Saturday

If I could describe our DVAC tournament in a metaphor it would be ‘roller coaster’. We started the day off with a win against the AISB B team 2-1, we dominated this game but towards the end relied on luck to get us over the line. In our second game, we played much more positively, on the front foot and when defending stuck to our roles strictly stopping every AISV attack. We showed signs that we could have scored in this match, but the score remained 0-0. In our final group match against the ICSV, we struggled to get out of first gear, after going 1 goal down we pulled it back to 1-1 just before halftime. Then for some inexplicable few moments into the second half, we switched off. The game finished 3-1 to ICSV, at this point I thought our day was over due to relying on the other teams in our group, but due to the other teams drawing their match we qualified for the 3rd V 4th play-off match.

After regrouping and some home truths about what went wrong in the previous match, we managed to drag ourselves up and prepare for the final game. We were brilliant, I was buzzing at the display produced by our team. We were quick, we countered, and we were solid in defence. We played the AISB A team who struggled to contain us. We dealt with all their main threats, and I think they were more relieved by the final whistle than us. It finished 0-0 and to the lottery of the penalty shootout. It was a tiny step too far for our girls and finished 4-3 on penalties to the AISB. We were simply exhausted coming off that pitch, but the main thing I will take away from the day is how solid the team is as a group. At no point did they not support each other or look for any excuses; they stood together, improved throughout the day, and worked tirelessly; that to me is exactly what I aim for as a coach.

This weekend the U14 Boys Football Team travelled to Bratislava to play in the DVAC Tournament. After a long day of hard-fought matches, we reached the second final after recording our only loss of the day against the eventual winners. In the second final the team did amazingly well and ended up with an easy 5-1 victory with goals coming from all over our team. It was a fantastic day for the boys, and they should be very proud of themselves for the way they represented the school.
