This week our mini chefs made their own dinner - a delicious pizza. We talked about how kitchen appliances can help us with our cooking and used dough which was made in a breadmaker. After shaping the dough our mini chefs created their own personalised toppings. On offer was ham, mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers, pepperoni and, of course, lots of pizza sauce and mozzarella! It was great to see how everyone’s pizza was so different. Well done, mini chefs!

In Week 3 of Mini Chefs we all worked together as a team to make a Chocolate Halloween Cake. Originally we had planned to make pizzas but couldn’t resist the opportunity to make something spooky for this time of the year! In this session, we practised team working skills and discussed preparation, oven safety and decorations. We talked about how ovens are different and how to recognise when a cake is cooked. One of our mini chefs shared the technique they use at home for this. The chefs waited so patiently for their cake to be baked, the smell from the oven was truly delicious. After the cake was cooled our chefs decorated it with more chocolate and added some spooky sprinkles and Maltesers. Pizzas will be next week!

In Week 2 of Mini Chefs, our budding chefs made English Honey Biscuits and what a perfect dish whilst our school celebrated International Week. In this session, our chefs practised their weighing and mixing skills. They also learnt to how to separate egg yolks and egg whites, which they thought was fun. The hardest part of the session was waiting for the biscuits to cool after they came out of the oven. Our mini chefs were surprised to learn that the cookies continued to cook for a few minutes, even when removed from the oven. In our next session, we will be making pizza!

Last week we started our first Mini Chefs CCA this academic year. It was wonderful to be back in the kitchen with some new mini-chefs! In week one, we talked about kitchen safety and hazards and learnt different cutting skills. Our mini chefs practised their cutting skills (including bridge hold, fork secure, grating, peeling and cutting using scissors) to make a healthy colourful salad. We started working on our own recipe books, which we will add with a new recipe each week. In week two, we are making English Honey Biscuits as part of our International Week!
