The Wizard of Oz School Musical On Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th April, our students involved in the school musical ‘The Wizard of Oz’ were able to perform once again in front of a live audience.

On Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th April, our students involved in the school musical ‘The Wizard of Oz’ were able to perform once again in front of a live audience. The students have been preparing for a number of months towards their performance evenings and student’s from Year 5-Year 12 have been involved in this year’s musical.

Our audience was immersed in the story of a tornado that rips through Kansas. Dorothy (Emily Thompson) and her dog Toto are transported to a magical land called Oz. On following the Yellow Brick Road, they come across several new companions. The Scarecrow (Luca Kopanyi) who needs a brain, a Tin Man (Finn Turner) who is missing a heart and a Cowardly Lion (Maximilian Strohmayer) who wants courage. The Wizard (Dora Tordai) asks Dorothy and her friends to bring her the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West (Bori Hordai) to earn her help.

"Contributing to the school musical is always a great experience. During rehearsals, we get to collaborate with other students from all around the school and work together to perfect a performance filled with music and joy. This year our school musical was The Wizard of Oz, in which we all teamed up and created amazing sets, costumes and an overall incredible play. None of this could have ever been possible without our wonderful teachers and mentors, Ms James and Mr Randall, who have helped us through all of the ups and downs that came our way during the production of this show. We are all looking forward to being able to work together once again on next year’s musical!"

Performing Arts requires cooperation and collaboration and subsequently, students are not only equipped with a stronger sense of individuality and self-confidence but also creativity, teamwork and communication skills; these are increasingly valued skills that will assist them in their future lives.

It has been wonderful to watch our Performing Arts students unite and grow as a cast. This includes musicians, backstage crew, technical team and the actors themselves. The physical demand with their movement, vocal techniques and dancing as actors; the fine motor skills and physical control and stamina (whether through controlled breathing or dexterity and strength in manipulating their instruments) as musicians and the focus, concentration, teamwork and multi-tasking of both the backstage crew and the technical team. I have watched in awe as our students have risen to every challenge thrown at them and handled it with such maturity.
