The British International School Budapest and Bratislava this week co-hosted the NAE European Performing Arts Festival Wednesday 26th – 28th January 2022. Six of our European schools participated in this event, including the British schools of Dublin, Prague, Warsaw, Madrid, Budapest and Bratislava.

The purpose of the festival was to give students an opportunity to collaborate and create, both within their schools and throughout the whole European community of Nord Anglia. With nearly 350 students involved, students worked in their Key Stages on a range of collaborative performances.

Our Key Stage 2 students created a performance of Pirates of the Curry Bean across the schools, with schools rehearsing and preparing a number of scenes. Key Stage 3 students created a devised drama and dance performance to accompany a specific piece of music that our European musicians were performing. Key Stage 4 students composed and devised a Performing Arts piece to represent their host city or country and our KS5 students networked across Europe to create a podcast radio play with their fellow Music and Theatre students, based on a fairy tale mystery. Friday 28th January culminated in each school ‘live-streaming’ their final products in a series of Key Stage concerts throughout the day.

It has been very impressive to see the sense of community spirit, as all schools continue to navigate the pandemic and show flexibility and adaptability daily to ensure Performing Arts students still find a way to collaborate. Students in all key stages have demonstrated leadership, creativity and teamwork skills and this was highlighted in their final performances.
