Big decisions lie ahead for Year 9 students at BISB. Every year at this time, students have to make their choices for IGCSE subjects which they will study in Years 10 and 11. It is one of those milestone moments in school life when the future suddenly does not seem so far away.

To support students with this important task, guidance lessons have been focusing on careers and jobs to enable students to consider which subjects would allow them to be fulfilled and flourish in the future. As part of the experience, Year 9 students were lucky enough to hear from a number of community members in different professions via Zoom.

Ms Henna Knuuttila spoke to the students about her life as a diplomat at the Finnish embassy, whilst Ms Anni Kallioniemi shared the joys and tribulations of being a professional cellist within a Hungarian orchestra. From the world of finance, Ms Krisztina Gulyas was kind enough to share her thoughts on the skills and experiences needed to succeed in the business world.

Ms Barbara Bocz introduced the exciting world of working on a ship as a cruise director. Students also had the chance to learn about the comprehensive work experience of Mr Janos Strohmayer, who is currently working as a consultant recruiting CEOs.

Year 9 are incredibly grateful that our community members were so willing to share their experiences of work.
