BCB Weekly Newsletter (2nd of October 2020)
Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe and difficult to comprehend that I have now been in Brazil for two months and have not yet met all your children in school. In a year of many firsts, many adjustments, great compromise and challenges, it is actually with great pride that we have reached the end of the first term of this academic year.
Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe and difficult to comprehend that I have now been in Brazil for two months and have not yet met all your children in school. In a year of many firsts, many adjustments, great compromise and challenges, it is actually with great pride that we have reached the end of the first term of this academic year.
I am proud of the commitment from each and every student and you their parents, I am proud of the excellent opportunities provided in our virtual learning experience by our teaching staff and I am proud of the way I have been welcomed and made to feel as the new Principal of BCB.
This week I received news of 21 amazing Primary students who completed a Nord Anglia Global Campus 2Km challenge showing great determination, they thoroughly deserved their ‘Grit’ house points. Thank you to David Beesley, our Primary PE Coordinator for encouraging great participation. I encourage all of you to get involved with our NAE Global Campus challenges and activities, something you only get by being part of a Nord Anglia school.
Another Global Campus challenge, in collaboration with MIT, has got students excited across the school and thank you to our amazing science and STEAM teachers who are driving this, Mr. Lucas Clemente in Primary and Mr. Eliakim Alves in Secondary. You can see the Primary launch of the MIT challenge by clicking here and here is a link as a reminder to the global campus website, click here for access.
Fabiano Gomez, our Primary librarian, has also been busy creating a fantastic blog, articles and much more, feel free to explore by clicking here.
Mr. Holman, Head of Secondary, led a fantastic assembly this week on leadership, linked cleverly to the leadership of Chelsea Football Club captain, Cesar Azpilicueta. Cesar is not the best Chelsea footballer, he works hard for his place, he started as substitute last weekend, but his skills of leadership are distinct and valuable. Anyone can be a leader if they learn and apply these skills. I hope I have read Mr. Holman’s message correctly but to me showing students real life examples, and personal stories, are a fantastic way for children to learn. This was then followed by an introduction to their new Secondary student council, STUCO, and how they are planning to help get everyone involved with a strong student voice. These are our future leaders, your children are our future leaders, and the more they are involved with their school, the more opportunities they get, the more they speak up, then the stronger our school will be.
Parents of Secondary students also had their parent teacher conferences this week and I am sure there were many examples of student leadership discussed. We hope these meetings were informative and helpful and have set targets for the next period of learning ahead.
I would always encourage you to frequently explore the website where you can find out lots of information and read interesting stories from our staff. Click here for Secondary and here for Primary. We hope you enjoy them.
Finally, I want to wish you all a fantastic week, please enjoy the well-earned rest. I know the children, teachers and yourselves will all be very welcome of this break, make sure you take time for yourselves and celebrate this terms achievements. We will see you all again on Tuesday 13th October, after the national holiday.
