Year 8 steam lessons have been out of this world recently as students were challenged to design a home on another planet.
This project was completed during online learning, so students had to get creative with how they built their models. Some used minecraft, others tinkercad, some built theirs from recycling at home and one group even managed to 3D print their design. Some students chose to build on the moon and researched the actual building materials NASA is designing for this. One group researched a real planet found in another solar system that NASA believe could sustain life. Students needed to think about how they would power their design, where the air they breathe would come from and what facilities they would need to include. Everyone thinks bedrooms and kitchens, but some even thought of a gym because you would not be able to go outside and exercise in the same way.
Well done everyone who took part, but special mentions go to Maria, Weronika, Helena, Steven, Matteo and Rafael for their projects that were so well thought out and their models which were so well constructed.

The Max Box Project was an excellent opportunity for Year 9 students to engage in a hands-on task that not only reinforced their understanding of mathematical concepts such as volume, nets, and algebraic modeling but also promoted critical meta-cognitive skills. The task, which involved determining the maximum volume of an open box made from a 20 cm x 20 cm square, required students to think deeply, plan, reflect, and adjust their approach as they progressed. This end-of-unit project encouraged self-awareness of their learning processes while fostering essential problem-solving skills.
The Secretariat of The British School Model United Nations is delighted to officially invite you to the 14th edition of the conference, which will take place from 7-9th March 2025.
I would like to take a moment to shine a spotlight on the fantastic work of one of our exceptional teachers in the secondary school.
