MUN stands for Model United Nations which is a simulation of United Nations proceedings, discussions, debates, and negotiations. During MUN conferences, students collaborate, finding ways to resolve the most pressing global issues and conflicts affecting the world. It is a perfect opportunity for you to develop various valuable skills such as public speaking, teamwork, and diplomacy. Model United Nations (MUN) originated in the mid-20th century, evolving from earlier simulations of the League of Nations. After the founding of the United Nations in 1945, MUN became a way for students to role-play as diplomats, debating real-world issues and simulating the workings of UN committees. The first recognised MUN conference was held at Harvard University in 1951. Since then, MUN has expanded globally, providing students with opportunities to develop public speaking, negotiation, and leadership skills while gaining insight into international relations and diplomacy.
At a Model United Nations conference, delegates act as United Nations (UN) diplomats representing different countries in UN-style committees, engaging in discussions on global issues like climate change, human rights, and international security. Participants must advocate their assigned country’s positions, negotiate with other representatives, and draft resolutions to address these challenges. This experience enhances students’ skills in diplomacy, research, and public speaking while deepening participants’ understanding of global affairs. TBSMUN 2025 will gather over 300 participants each representing a country in one of our 14 committees ranging from the Security Council (SC) to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). You will debate in a committee of your choice, upon a topic decided by our experienced chair board.
If you would be interested in joining our conference, please create an account on ‘mymun.com’ and sign up straight from the website or scan one of the QR codes posted around the school and sign up from there.
