We had a Makaton master class workshop, a search party assembled in FS2 in search of our endangered house mascot animals and Santa’s elves have been busy putting up Christmas decorations. How wonderful!
Makaton is a language programme that uses signs and symbols, together with speech to aid communication. Over the last few years the teachers in Foundation Stage especially have become increasingly interested in using Makaton with the children.
Last week Ms Lizzie ran an interesting Makaton workshop for teachers and parents in using some basic signs. It will be interesting to see how the children pick up the signs and whether they begin to use them at home and at school.
On Friday and Saturday last week we ran our annual flu vaccination programme on the Primary Campus. This year over 600 students, academic, admin and estates staff registered for the programme. Thank you to Samitivej, our own nurses and Estates team for a brilliant job of organising.
For the last few week's the children in FS2 have been enjoying getting to know the house mascot animals and have been learning that they are endangered and need to be looked after. We were surprised to learn on Friday morning that they had all gone missing and needed to be found. With the wonderful help from our House Leaders who luckily had a map and some clues to help we set off on a search around the school to find our beloved animals. Finally after an intense search we found them all in the “Lost and Found” room near the canteen! A huge thanks to the House Leaders who came to help us and for such a fun activity on a Friday!

There was an air of excitement in school this morning when the children saw that Santa’s elves had been busy at the weekend putting up the first of the Christmas decorations. Over this week the classrooms and campus will start to take on more of a Christmas feel as we prepare for the concerts, the carol singing, the shows and the Christmas Fair. It is going to be a busy few weeks!
Usually, the Primary School Christmas Fair falls on the day of the concerts. This year, it will be held on a separate day- Wednesday 16th December. The fair will run from 2.30 pm until 4.30 pm. As well as the stalls run by the Y6 children, there will also be outside vendors selling their wares, which is always the perfect way to grab some gifts for your friends and family. There will also be food vendors in the canteen so you can grab a bite to eat and catch up with friends.
As is traditional at this time of year, our thoughts turn to people in our local community that are less fortunate than ourselves. This year more than any other there is a huge need for your generosity.
The donations are already coming in for our Christmas Charity Appeals.
Reminders of ways you can contribute are below...
The Thai Department is organizing a donation opportunity for STA families to give to the less fortunate children in the north and northeast of Thailand.
These children are in need of some love and warmth. Unfortunately, they are not able to afford these necessities so we hope we are able to help them out.
If your child has any pre-loved soft toys that they no longer use, we would love to receive them to be given to these children. We ask for you to please donate toys that have been washed and cleaned.
When? - We’re accepting the soft toys from November 23rd – December 18th.
Where? - The donation box will be provided at the S block on the 2nd floor in the shared area in front of Khroo Yui’s classroom (S22).
Collection boxes will be on each floor of the T Building and in the G Block. Donations should not be gift wrapped. Even the smallest donation will be gratefully received.
