This week I am taking part in a CIS/NEASC/IB Virtual Evaluation Visit to Victoria Shanghai Academy, Hong Kong.
As parents who have been part of the St Andrews Community for longer will know, I have participated in a number of CIS Evaluation Visits during my time at St Andrews but, like many things this year, this one is a bit different.
I have spent today in Zoom Meetings, both with teachers at Victoria Shanghai Academy and with Evaluation Team colleagues located in Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Pune, Perth, Melbourne and Shanghai, and visiting Zoom lessons, with students either in school or at home, whether in Hong Kong or beyond.
These visits are always very interesting experiences. As an educator, it is a privilege, and both enjoyable and thought-provoking, to be able to immerse yourself in another school for a week and I am sure that this week will be no exception, though I wish that I had been able to travel to Hong Kong and meet everyone at the school in person.
In last week’s Newsletter I mentioned some of last year’s Year 13 students and their university plans, and promised a fuller list this week.
While, as I wrote, this is more complicated than usual this year, we are very proud that these students will be studying at some excellent universities all over the world, even if this, like my CIS Evaluation Visit, is online to start with. With some students still confirming their university places, the current list looks like this:
Australia: University of Melbourne, Monash University, University Of New South Wales
Canada: University of British Columbia, Concordia University, University of Toronto
Grenada: St. George's University
Hong Kong: Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
Japan: Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Sophia University
Netherlands: University of Amsterdam, Delft University of Technology, The Hague University of Applied Sciences, Leiden University, Stenden University of Applied Sciences, Tilburg University, University of Twente, Utrecht University
South Korea: Yonsei University
Singapore: Nanyang Technological University
Thailand: Chulalongkorn University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology, Mahidol University, Thammasat University
United Kingdom: University of the Arts London, Bournemouth University, University of Bristol, Durham University, Goldsmiths University of London, Hult International Business School, Imperial College London, King's College London, London School of Economics and Political Science, Queen Mary University of London, University of Manchester, University of Southampton, University College London, University of Warwick
United States: Babson College, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Borough of Manhattan Community College, DigiPen Institute of Technology, Hult International Business School, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Northeastern University, Purdue University, Savannah College of Art and Design
As you can see from the calendar extract below, it’s going to be a very busy three weeks between now and half-term, with International Day on Friday 9th October.
This is always one of the highlights of the High School year, and we are all looking forward to another great High School International Day, with each Year Group working on activities created by a different Department/Faculty, six Assemblies and, of course, our world-famous International Day Buffet. Thank you in advance to the PTG and all of the Country Reps who are already working to make this biggest and best International Day Buffet ever…
