St Andrews International School Bangkok is in the final two weeks of an incredibly busy and successful first term and there is still lots going on….Read on for more information about the Community Carol Singing, the Christmas Gift collection, a look ahead to Tiger Conservation Day early next term and much more.

We are drawing very close to the end of a very busy term and you will all know about the various shows and concerts that your children will be part of in the next two weeks. Another event you might like to join is the Carol Singing on Friday this week in the Y6 Quad.

Under the big Christmas Tree - 7.30 a.m. Song sheets will be provided and house point awarded.

Gift Collections

The gifts are already coming in for our two gift collections. Foundation Stage families are bringing in gifts for the Mercy Centre, whilst KS1 Families are supporting the Bangkok Refugee Centre.

Gifts should be wrapped and clearly labeled with the age the gift is suitable for and if it is for a boy or girl.

School Closed and Arrangements for the last day of term

Don’t forget, school is closed this Wednesday (5 December) for King Bhumibol’s birthday and next Monday (10 December) for Constitution day.

Next Friday, we will be closing at 12.30 p.m. Please make sure that you make arrangements to collect your children at this time. The school buses will be boarding at 12.30 p.m. for a 12.45 p.m. departure.

You can, of course, pick up your children after they have eaten lunch at 11.45 am but please inform the class teachers before you take them out of school.

Future Event - 11 January, Tiger Conservation Day

As you can imagine, though we are already celebrating the end of a successful first term, we are planning well ahead into Term 2 and beyond.

We start off the next term with a sustainability and conservation theme, which we will explain in more detail next term, but we want to give you some advance warning! On Friday 11th January the children will be visited by representatives of The World Wildlife Fund in Thailand (WWF), who will talk to us about conservation in general, but specifically about Thailand’s endangered tiger population. To raise the profile of this event we are inviting staff and students to come to school wearing ‘tiger themed’ clothes. That might just mean wearing orange and black or something more creative!

We ask that children donate 20-50 baht on this day, the money going to the World Wildlife Fund in Thailand to support their local projects.

Staff Training

Staff Training is extremely important to teachers working overseas as everyone is keen to keep up with the latest initiatives in education and take opportunities to share good practice with colleagues from around the region. During recruitment, it is often one of the first questions candidates ask when we invite them into school to meet the children and staff.

At St Andrews International School Bangkok we are lucky to have many opportunities for staff development and only recently have hosted two very successful events at Primary School.

Literacy and EAL JAWS

On Friday 23 and Saturday 24 November Mrs Leanne, our Literacy Coordinator, and Mr Phil, our EAL Coordinator, led a joint Job-A-Like Workshop for their subjects. This was a FOBISIA event, so around 25 teachers from the region came along to share best practice and pick up ideas from their teaching colleagues. Many of our teachers were able to take part both as participants and some as presenters.

Staff Training with Apple Education

On Thursday last week over 70 teachers were welcomed to St Andrews International School Bangkok Primary Campus as Apple Education delivered a 3 hour workshop, “Everyone Can Create”. They learned about how to make the most out of the technology that we already have in school - particularly the use of photographs, video, drawing tools and music.

We look forward to using our new skills with the children next term.

Reports and Parent Consultations

The teachers are busily writing their Term 1 reports, which will cover general progress and specific progress in English and Maths. They will be ready to view on Moodle on Friday 14 December.

Many parents have already requested appointments using the links below. If you haven’t signed up for an appointment yet, there’s still time to reserve your place, however, some time slots are proving popular and are now full, so you may be offered an alternative time.
