Juilliard Alumni Visit
As you know, Regents is now the only school in Thailand collaborating with The Juilliard School in New York, as part of the Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme. As part of this, we are delighted to inform you that we will be hosting a member of the Juilliard team, pianist Michael Shinn, the Director of Keyboard Studies at The Juilliard School. We will also be welcoming pianist Jessica Shinn. Both Michael and Jessica are accomplished performers known both nationally and internationally and will be in school visiting our staff and students on Thursday 16th June.
They have also kindly agreed to provide a masterclass and performance for any student who would be interested in attending. This is an exclusive event for our Regents School community and it is also wonderful opportunity for our students.
The masterclass and performance will take place on Thursday 16th June between 2:00pm and 3:00pm.

Michael Shinn’s diverse career in music reflects his deep passion for performance, education, and entrepreneurship in the arts. He is Chair of Keyboard Studies at The Juilliard School, where he teaches piano, chamber music, piano pedagogy, keyboard skills, and analysis for performers. Michael is also on the piano faculty of Juilliard’s Evening Division.
Michael is Senior Advisor for Educational and Artistic Programs at Juilliard Global Ventures, where he is helping to develop an innovative music platform for K-12 education. He has been featured in videos and written informative essay content for JGV’s internationally-renowned Open Studios app.
Together with his wife, Jessica, Michael co-founded and co-directs the pianoSonoma Music Festival. Having just finished its fifth season, this unique festival brings together Artists in Residence and adult musicians of all backgrounds to collaborate and perform in Sonoma County. Through Michael’s leadership, pianoSonoma has established a new collaboration with Juilliard, offering a three-day intensive version of its Sonoma program at Juilliard.
As duo pianists and Yamaha Artists, Jessica and Michael regularly perform throughout the U.S. They have been invited to speak about the role of the arts in society and to perform at the Pebble Beach Authors and Ideas Festival. Passionate advocates of new music, Jessica and Michael have given world premieres by composers such as Adam Schoenberg and Thomas Cabaniss. They are commissioning a new two-piano concerto by Cabaniss, which the duo will be premiering with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra in April of 2017.
Michael is also a marathon runner and triathlete.
Pianist Jessica Shinn, who joined the Juilliard faculty in 2012, has performed throughout the United States and Europe as a soloist and chamber musician. Jessica and her husband, Michael Shinn, are the Co-Founders and Artistic Directors of The pianoSonoma Music Festival, a program dedicated to bringing together talented Artists in Residence to collaborate and perform with adult musicians of many backgrounds. They have been invited to speak about the role of the arts in society and to perform at the Pebble Beach Authors and Ideas Festival. Jessica’s recent engagements include recitals in Alice Tully Hall, Weill Hall at the Green Music Center, the Peter Jay Sharp Theater, Trinity Church in Lower Manhattan, Steinway Hall in New York City, Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur in Montréal and Salle Cortot in Paris. In 2009, Jessica was a featured performer in the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s presentation of “Inside Chamber Music, Joy and Despair: The Music of Schubert.” Jessica’s interest in the integration of theater and song led to her appointment as Music Director in an innovative New York University production of Schumann’s Frauenliebe und -leben in 2012.
Jessica is dedicated to the musical education of both adult and pre-college students. As a musicianship coach in the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artists Program, she worked individually with the rising singers of tomorrow. She is a regular faculty member at the Piano and Chamber Music Institute at Samford University for intermediate and advanced high school students each June.
Jessica is a Yamaha Artist.
