Drama at Regents International School Pattaya
Our collaboration with The Juilliard School creates fabulous learning opportunities for our students. In lessons, they learn about performance through experimentation and discovery, and take control of their experience. We find this leads to greater independence, creativity, and a higher quality of performance work. Students learn to communicate in complex and powerful ways, to work productively, co-operatively and proactively in teams, and hone their analytical skills.
All our students take part in drama performances. There are a range of opportunities, not only to act but also to be involved backstage. Each year, we put on several productions, from Annie and Shrek to A Christmas Carol pantomime.
In Years 7, 8 and 9, students hone their ability to create, perform, and evaluate while exploring a range of theatrical styles, including clowning, mask, puppetry, physical theatre, and naturalism. We also explore relevant global issues, for example, the international refugee crisis. Through this work, students gain insight into complex political situations while simultaneously creating work built on their empathy, sensitivity, and imagination.
Our IGCSE drama course has a practical focus. Performance projects grow in scale, creating the opportunity for groups to produce their own, high quality work. They also learn to write analytically and evaluatively about performance work, and to write their own staging scripts as actors, directors, and designers. Drama at this level encourages creativity, developing skills that will support progression to further study.
At IBDP level, we encourage artistic discovery through experimentation, risk-taking, and the presentation of ideas. The IBDP theatre course is multifaceted, providing opportunities to actively engage as creators, designers, directors, and performers.
Co-curricular clubs
We also offer a range of co-curricular activities. Our studio-to-stage group embraces everything theatrical, inspiring budding set designers and lighting experts, while our Glee club brings performers together to put on spectacular shows.
