Bucket drumming extravaganza!

BOOM! CRASH! Let’s make some music!

Bucket drumming was a new thing to me as a student. I had no clue about it. Until one day… the competition that started it all! 

Hi, I’m Mehar and I’m writing this article to explain to you the joy of bucket drumming. Who loves making music? I definitely do. Bucket drumming is a great way of learning how to make music without an expensive instrument! This competition is such a great idea to improve your creativity and the different ways you can make music. If you love making noise then you are the right person for bucket drumming.

The Global Campus competition asked us to film in a place that reflects our school community and environment and so we of course would have to do it at school. Some schools might be able to step outside and shoot their video outside of their school but, when we step out of Regents we are no longer in our ‘school community’! The reason it is no longer Regents is because we would be on the highway. Regents is our environment. It is just like our home. We are extremely proud of our new astro turf so we will be filming on that as well as the child friendly, Key Stage one playground.

As it is now near to our Thai celebration of Songkran, which is known as the festival of water, there will be a surprise at the end of our video… a very special surprise!

You may be wondering what we are doing with our buckets after we finish our videoing. Since one of our Primary Community Partners is Hand to Hand, we will be donating our buckets along with rice, old clothes, old shoes and much more inside. Hand to Hand will give the buckets to the families living in the slums of Pattaya (the city). The idea came from the Songkran festival, a celebration of water. The families in the slums will use the buckets for things like transporting water to their houses from water machines, collecting rain water to wash with, using them for showering and cleaning dishes. The uses are endless! We will all add one item to our buckets that these families are in desperate need of and we take for granted.

Instead of buying buckets from Tesco, Big C, Mega Home, Seven-Eleven and other rich companies, we bought our buckets from local stores as we know that these are the people who really need our support and money. All of the service work we do at Regents makes me feel very helpful so I think that buying buckets from a local store is a great idea. We are doing this whole bucket drumming competition for charities. Not every school gets a community partner like we do so Regents is very lucky that we have such a thing to help us learn more than just academic subjects.

​As this is my last year in Thailand, bucket drumming has been a life changing experience that I will remember for years and years. Thank you for making this year a road to memories. Just remember, BE AMBITIOUS and try new things!
