On the afternoon of April 18th, with the sun shining brightly, a charming English-style afternoon tea party was grandly held on the Léman campus to celebrate the remarkable 15th anniversary of the school's founding. The event drew over 600 enthusiastic participants, including all Léman students, faculty, staff, parents, and friends from the Léman community. We were also honored to welcome distinguished guests, including leaders from the Chengdu Education Bureau, the Deputy Director of the Tianfu New Area Education and Health Bureau, representatives from Nord Anglia Education Group, as well as Consuls General and Consuls from various consulates.
The event kicked off in the grassy area beneath the outdoor fountain, with the bright sun casting a warm glow, creating a cheerful and vibrant atmosphere. The outdoor stage was elegantly designed, and under the tents, exquisite English afternoon tea and delicate desserts were beautifully arranged.
The event kicked off at 2pm with a welcome speech from Mrs. Tracy Connor, the Principal of Léman. She warmly reflected on the journey and remarkable achievements of the school over the past 15 years, speaking with deep emotion and pride. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the students, teachers, staff, and parents, describing them as the core and soul of Léman’s growth. She also poignantly shared, "As Principal, what I treasure most are the deep personal relationships I’ve built with both the staff and students. Being part of their growth journey, listening to their stories and dreams, and helping them move forward, is undoubtedly the most precious privilege of leadership." In addition, she proudly introduced Léman’s latest mascot, Ruby, the red panda, adding a touch of unique cuteness to the event.
Dr. Terry Creissen, the China Regional Managing Director of Nord Anglia Education, also delivered an impressive speech. His remarks seamlessly blended English and Chinese, with humor and wit, vividly affirming Léman’s outstanding achievements over the past 15 years and highlighting its important role within the Nord Anglia family.
Mr. Günther Lazelsberger, Consul at the Austrian Consulate General in Chengdu, was invited to speak as a Léman parent. He highly praised Léman’s educational philosophy, commending the school for actively encouraging students to maintain curiosity, ask bold questions, learn to look beyond appearances, and delve deeply into the essence of things. He emphasised that Léman is a school that encourages students to understand matters from diverse perspectives, focuses on cultivating critical thinking skills, and helps shape students' confidence.
Olivia, the representative of the Year 12 students, shared her profound feelings of witnessing Léman’s tremendous changes and progress over the eight years she has been at the school. With deep emotion, she said, "Léman is a school that inspires students to boldly try new things and face failure with confidence. It is inclusive and open-minded, but it does not tolerate giving up easily." Her words were filled with love and pride for Léman.
At the event, a series of spectacular performances took place. The primary school choir’s heavenly voices conveyed innocence and beauty; the piano and cello performances by students were deeply moving; and the band performance by GILI'S restaurant added an energetic touch, bringing the atmosphere to a thrilling climax.
The Principal of Léman and leaders from Nord Anglia Education also held an award ceremony to recognise employees who have dedicated 8-10 years, 10-15 years, and over 15 years of service at Léman, expressing gratitude for their unwavering commitment and selfless contributions.
