On September 27, 2024, the main lobby of Léman International School transformed into a vibrant stage for the highly anticipated event, "Jam @ The Lobby." This musical gathering showcased the incredible talent and creativity of students, bringing together various year groups for a filled with improvisation and collaboration.
The event kicked off with an enchanting performance by Year 1, who delivered an improvised rendition of the beloved nursery rhyme "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." The Year 1 students, under the guidance of Mr. Wong on piano, brought a fresh and spontaneous flair to this classic, demonstrating the beauty of unprepared musical expression. Their joyful rendition captivated the audience and set the tone for the day.
Following the delightful performance by the young musicians, the MYP students took to the stage, Mr. Wong, on the keytar and piano, collaborated with Year 13 student Devan on drums, Year 11’s Cho on lead electric guitar, and Jun from Year 9 on rhythm guitar. The unique aspect of this performance was its entirely improvised nature, inspired by a melodic motif provided by Mrs. Connor, the school’s Principal. This innovative approach allowed the students to explore their creativity while showcasing their individual talents, resulting in a captivating and dynamic musical experience.
The "Jam @ The Lobby" event is more than just a concert; it embodies two of NAE's learner ambitions: "Be committed" and "Be creative." Students demonstrated their commitment by understanding and adapting their musical choices, showing persistence in their practice leading up to the event. At the same time, they embraced creativity, expressing their musical ideas in a way that made their performances truly stand out.
As the event concluded, the energy in the lobby was palpable, filled with the enthusiasm of students, parents, and faculty. The success of this inaugural "Jam @ The Lobby" event has set the stage for many more to come, each promising exciting, innovative, and creative performances that highlight the extraordinary talent within Léman International School.
The school community eagerly anticipates future jams, fostering an environment where students can continue to collaborate, experiment, and express themselves through music.
