It is another Chinese New Year celebration again! Since last week, the whole school has started participating in a variety of traditional Chinese cultural activities.
There is nothing better than celebrating and coming together as a school and showing off the amazing talent we have here at Léman. The children danced, sang and paraded themselves into the Chinese New Year with some very unusual guests along the way, including a very colourful dragon and someone with many different faces! Well, what an amazing way to start the Year of the Rabbit!
Whether you celebrate Chinese New Year or not, this event is a very special occasion for all members of our school community and an opportunity for all students and staff to learn more about the culture of the community at whose heart we sit.
Early Years and Primary
To welcome the arrival of the Spring Festival in the Year of the Rabbit, in the morning of January 20th, the students in the Early Years and Primary school gave some wonderful performances in our performance center THE LOFT.
The performances were divided into two parts, with students from Pre-Nursery to Year 3 performing for the lower primary group, and Year 4 to Year 6 performing for the upper primary group.
The parents were invited to watch the performance too. The children were excited, as well as our parents and teachers. The whole performance ended with warm applause with joy.
In the afternoon, all the Early Years and Primary students watched the wonderful traditional Chinese cultural performance: Sichuan mask changing, and shadow puppet show at the performing center THE LOFT, which were loved so much by our kids. And how can you miss the Temple Fair for celebrating the Chinese Spring Festival? After watching the performance, the students came to our Temple Fair around the campus and participated in a variety of interesting traditional Chinese games and activities. The kids had so much fun!
Secondary School
Last week, Chinese teachers organized some traditional Chinese culture experience activities in their classrooms, inviting all Secondary School students to participate. Students wrote spring couplings, tried dragon dances, played Chinese Chess, jumped ropes, etc. They all had so much fun.
Some students from the Secondary School have also participated in and supported the primary school performances. They acted as the hosts, the Temple Fair supporters, the dragon dancers to bring more festive atmosphere to everyone.
In the afternoon of January 20th, Secondary School students also participated in the Temple Fair held on campus, and everyone was attracted by the various traditional cultural activities and games and had great fun by trying them all.
The Léman Chinese New Year celebration ended with a smiling face on everyone. We wish everyone a happy and prosperous Year of the Rabbit!
