Welcome to 2023!  We're so excited for a positive, engaging, and exciting term ahead at Léman. We have some great events, activities, and days to celebrate in the upcoming months, starting with our Year of the Rabbit Chinese New Year celebrations. In February, we have Valentine's Day on February 14th, Acts of Kindness Day on February 17th, along with International Languages Day on February 21st.

Charity Update

Thank you to all of the contributions for our White Tiger initiatives recently. Mr. McCabe kicked things off with "Movember", where 10 of our male staff grew mustaches during the month of November. "Movember" started back in 2003 to raise money for health projects including mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. It's been an overwhelming success, with over 1,250 men's health projects funded in the last 20 years. This year Mr. McCabe donated to The Library Project, which has furnished thousands of reading rooms in rural schools in China.

The students contributed to "Movember" and "Roots & Shoots Shanghai" our environmental charity by buying out (a minimum of 20 RMB) to watch our staff go up against our mighty Red Pandas in a Volleyball competition. In addition, they had the opportunity to come out of uniform and "wear a sports jersey" where the money raised contributed to both charities.

  • Blue Dragon - Wawu Primary School
  • White Tiger - Roots and Shoots Shanghai
  • Red Phoenix - Hopeful Hearts
  • Black Tortoise - Animals Asia

In Secondary, each House has been paired up with one of our 4 school charities. Throughout the year each House will have two-three different events to raise money for the charity matched to our different Houses.

Students do not have to donate; we encourage students to get involved and understand the importance of making a difference for positive change while connecting as global citizens outside the classroom walls. Next, we have Black Tortoise for the month of February. We will have our senior Red Panda Basketball teams go up against our staff for a friendly competition after CNY, the students will also have the opportunity to come out of uniform and "wear RED" on Tuesday February 14th, for Valentine's Day. This money will be donated to Benji Bear at Animals Asia sanctuary.

In Primary, our students raised money on World Children's Day to pay it forward with children helping children. Two students Mason and Kyle in Y9 designed a t-shirt to help raise awareness and money on World Children's Day. This money will provide local eggs for the next 5 months to Wawu Primary School.

Y13 students collected gifts for a school in Bora for each student to receive a Christmas present this year. Every student in their school was able to receive a gift because of our incredible Léman community. The children in Bora look forward to receiving these gifts each year and it is one of their channels of communication outside of their village. Thank you to the teachers and staff who donated towards the shipping fee.

Y12 students are working on creating a community picnic garden that will begin this term. William and Johnnie have set up a gaming Fifa World Cup Tournament that will be played in the upcoming weeks and after the Lunar New Year holidays. A small entrance fee is required to play, and all proceeds will be put towards the equipment and decorations needed for the garden.
