Grade 12 Graduation Ceremony

Grade 12 Graduation Ceremony On Tuesday, Léman celebrated the Grade 12 students’ graduation ceremony at the Shangri-la hotel in Chengdu. It was a fantastic event and we are all very proud of all of the students’ achievements, not only academically but also their contribution to all areas of school life. The graduating class of 2020 have shown resilience, commitment and dedication throughout the IB Diploma programme and it was a real honour to recognise and celebrate their success.

On Tuesday, Léman celebrated the Grade 12 students’ graduation ceremony at the Shangri-la hotel in Chengdu.  It was a fantastic event and we are all very proud of all of the students’ achievements, not only academically but also their contribution to all areas of school life.  The graduating class of 2020 have shown resilience, commitment and dedication throughout the IB Diploma programme and it was a real honour to recognise and celebrate their success.

Students, parents, family members, friends and staff enjoyed delicious canapés before the ceremony and it was lovely to have the time to speak to the graduates and their guests.  The marketing team did an excellent job in organising photographs of each student which are now displayed outside the admin building. In addition, they took the lead in producing the visuals for the presentations.

The ceremony itself was very special.  The Nan River conference room was not only beautiful but also well-equipped to hold such a prestigious event.  Speeches were delivered by Mr Ferguson, Mr Pass, Mr George, Ms Penstone and Ms Huskisson and, our graduates, Patrick, Oliver and Xing, thanked all of those people who have played a significant role in their development and growth.  Se-Ung compiled a video of memories that encapsulated Grade 12s journey together throughout their time at Léman. 

The awarding of the LIS Diplomas celebrated each student’s accomplishments and their first- choice university and internship destinations.  They are to be applauded in receiving offers from top universities around the world such as, the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, Kings College London, University College London, London School of Economics, University of Art London, University of Leeds,University of SouthamptonUniversity of Bristol, New York University, Tsinghua University Beijing, Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, Parsons, New School of Design, New York, School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong and Universidad de las Américas Puebla, Mexico.  One of our graduates will begin internships at highly regarded companies in Germany such as Porsche, Nussbaum, PWC Consulting and McKinsey before embarking on a Business BA degree in the following year.  In addition, we have another student who will be enlisting into the New Zealand Navy this August.  Clearly, the class of 2020 is diverse in its course choices ranging from mathematics, computer science, mechanical and general engineering, environmental design, creative media, graphic and communication design, nutrition, business administration, politics and film and television.

The ceremony concluded with the tradition of ‘turning the tassels’ followed by an opportunity for students to have their photographs taken with their family, friends and teachers.  In the evening, our celebratory dinner was held in CaféZ where we all enjoyed a delicious international buffet.  The evening was brought to a close with a speech given by Mrs Pass to graduates and a scrumptious Black Forest cake organised by Mr Pass.

All in all, it was a stupendous ceremony which will never be forgotten nor will the graduating class of 2020.  They have done Léman proud!  Congratulations to them all!
